I have been reading about the panasonic G1 and Gf1 and am really confused in picking one ....I am not really into video and could I print in A3 ..your thoughts please

The G1 is more versatile with the multi angle rear screen and an outstanding electronic view finder.
The GF1 is more "pocketable".

The G1 can also be picked up for I believe £299 at jacobs camera's this week.

Shooting in raw I think you may just be able to get away with A3, as long as the subject was well lit and your processing spot on.

lol you can actually print a lot at A3, seen tight crops from a fairly low res 1d3 print to A3 nicely

I went for the GF1 and I think it's great. I think that there are only two improvements that I can think off...An internal OVF and IS. Other than that I think that it's a great camera.

One thing that has pleased and surprised me is the picture quality and another pleasing thing is that the pictures can take quite a lot of processing before they degrade, so lighting and exposure don't have to be spot on and quite big problems can be corrected in post capture processing.

I suppose that the G1 and GF1 are aimed at slightly different markets but the GF1 makes the most sense to me as a quality and quite compact camera that I can take when I don't want to take my DSLR.

Good luck choosing.

I went with the GF1 due to its size as well. With the 20mm I find it's not much larger than the Powershot G9 I upgraded from and I know myself in that I want to have my camera with me as much as possible - making it larger would mean increasing the threshold.

Good luck - they're both good cameras. Consider visiting a store and handling both ;)

I have both and If I wasn't interested in video I would probably go for the G1. It's a real bargain at the moment with the cashback too. It is that little bit bigger though which means it's not quite pocketable for me, which the GF1 is.

And I dunno about 'just getting away with A3' - I've printed A3 a few times and it looks stunning imo - I also have a 30 x 20" print taken with the GF1 that looks fine.

edit: Although this is also a mega bargain

:)Well guys you gave sound advice there ...and due to the G1 being such a bargin at the moment and getting hard to get ...I went into currys tonight and got a G1 for 349.99 and I will get 50.00 cash back so overall it has cost me 299.00 plus i had an 8meg SD card thrown in for TENNER ...So thanks for all your suggestions ....This site Rocks:)

You paid a tenner for an 8mb card? They must have seen you coming

Seriously though congrats on the new purchase, enjoy it :)

Today with my G1 and 45-200mm

Had to be quick he was gone quick as a flash

Suspect he means 8Gb... 8Mb is just over half a shot in RAW :D

The EVF on the G1 is excellent, as is the tilting/fold out screen.

I would like a GF1 body at some point, but the G1 does everything the GF-1 does (except HD vid) for half the price and it's not that much bigger.

By a used G1 you should get one for £175. The GF1 is fine but I think you will miss the VF, coming from a D3
