Saw this website via a link in the old visage-tome and while I did have a bit of a giggle, something about it doesn't sit right with me:
http://youarenotaphotographer.com
A lot of the photos are undoubtedly awful but there are also some that, while not great, aren't hilariously bad and just appear to me to be the work of people who are learning and trying new things out. As such, it comes across a little like sneering and bullying.
It's not particularly classy in my mind to rip into and demoralise people who may be just enthusiastic amateurs. This seems quite common in photography at the minute. I wonder if the popularity of photography (due to the relative ease of the modern process) has led to a sort of elitism - almost like people want to nip ambition in the bud lest it becomes competition (either competition for kudos or even for business).
Am I a rambling, paranoid fool or is there something to be said for more support and help and less sneering and condescension?
