I'm thinking of setting up another website using Wordpress again, but maybe trying a full screen version.

I really like the way some of these look, and seems an excellent way of producing a bit of a wow factor, but Just wondering if anybody knew if full screen sites have any draw backs?

Cheers :)

Easiest way to loose a customer, I hate them and any website which takes over my screen, without asking, is left at the next click of the mouse.

Sorry, I may not have been very clear. I meant that the images were full screen, as in they take up the whole of your website, as opposed to a smaller image with dead space around it.

Personally I think you are better off using a lightbox script of some sort to do that, so visitors have the option....a bit like Flickr with the slideshow...

If you're looking at WP themes you might also want to consider how they're handled on mobile devices but when it comes to media display I tend to use jquery separately from any WP plugins.

From a UI point of view I think it's important to keep the site navigation visible (and clickable) at all times and that any mouse clicks (when an image is full screen sized) either on the image, or away from it, closes the full-size image (don't make me hunt for the "X" or "close"). Building ease of use into a website design is perhaps more important than features? More here.

Easiest way to lose me as website customer is to have spelling mistakes... :-p

The Prophoto theme lets you switch to full screen in the galleries, maintains all the usual navigation when not full screen, produces a mobile friendly version with no effort.

All on top of fab SEO, the most customisable Wordpress templates available and fantastic support. I've got a discount code if you want one - because you can't have all that and cheap too.

Thanks Phil, though I already have a Prophoto site :)

I was thinking of a site that had a full screen image on the home page, but actually now I've thought about it more, I wouldn't be able to get the text I need on the home page too.

Plan B

I'm due to finish working on my site that is full screen...I looked on some WordPress templates that are smaller but couldn't find one that I liked ....as for thus prophoto... Its bloody expensive!!!!!!

When I look at what it costs, how much time I can save with it, it's bloody cheap! ;)

Set up time; an hour, extra time required for SEO, none, time saved on uploads etc etc

Compared to other sites I've used and other people's experiences, I reckon compared to a genuinely bespoke site, I've saved thousands, and compared to 'free' or cheap templates I've saved about 100-200 hrs.

Check out Nick's (wedding photos) mix of full size site and prophoto blog.
