Full Moon Rise on the 9th Jan

Hopefully but the forecast says cloud :( They've been known to be wrong though :)
Couldn't get a damn taxi in time tonight. Ah well. Cé la vie...
Got me out of the house and away from the computer, plus some nice alternative shots, so not a total write-off.

Watched the moon rise over the sea tonight.

Took some pics although I haven't had a chance to do proper processing yet. This one is pretty much straight from the camera. Just had levels tweaked in lightroom.

Nice pic but doesn't look right to me

Bah Alan, this was what I wanted but got home too late. Love the starburst on the lighthouse.

Carter - great lighting on the rocks

That's fine. I'd like to thank Scottishguy for drawing the opportunity to my attention. I posted the image as genuine feedback.

Spent 15 mins wondering whether to bite at your comment. Decided not to. ;)

No need to bite at my comment at all  I was simply pointing out the image looks edited i.e. 'not straight out of camera' as you said in your OP?

If it is then 'fair enough' ....... Still looks wrong though!

You missed the bit where I said I tweaked the levels in lightroom. Maybe they aren't to your taste. Either way. I'm pleased with it. :)

EDIT: Cropped it and straightened the horizon too. Sorry, forgot to mention that,

As I said earlier it's a nice enough picture  but it just looks wrong in my opinion

It was huge here and real clear, It was mesmerising!!!
Unfortunately, I'm still on my short lens, so couldn't get a shot. : (

I know. I heard you the first time you suggested I was a liar. But I'm moving on, thanks

I didn't suggest you were a liar  but now you have moved the discussion to a new level perhaps you can explain the total lack of moonlight on the water and in the sky, also the scale looks completely wrong?

Yes I can. I have photographic evidence. Which is good enough for me.Glad you finally got it all off your chest. Tell you what. Send me a class 10 8gb memory card and a couple of quid to cover recorded delivery and I'll post you my memory card with the original raw files. You can then share my photographic evidence.

Please be aware though. The images would be for personal use only, and copyright would remain with me, ;)

Or you could just post here with the exif intact ;)

Thank you Alan

I accept your image as correct and apologise if I came across as doubting? That was not my intention. My point was and stands that the image looks wrong!

I said earlier and say again it really is a nice enough image and one to be proud of but it still looks wrong........ in my opinion!

BTW....... You have some great stuff on your Flickr

Apology accepted. Lets move on

I will post some more on flickr when I get around to it. And some of them will have different moons photoshopped in (from the same session I hasten to add). Because it wasn't long before it became to bright. The golden reflection is present already in those foregrounds

Thanks for your feedback on flickr. Much appreciated :)

EDIT: The moon was so muted that there was absolutely no reflection from it. The reflection wasn't visible until the bottom of the moon had reached the level of the white part of the lighthouse, by which time it was quite a bit brighter

I went out last night to see if I could get some. It was so bright I had to put the shutter up to 1/500 and down to 150 ISO at f8 just to stop the blinkies. Tried out my new Sigma 150-500 for the first time, haven't downloaded them yet but they look ok on the cameras screen.

Is that a harbour wall the moon is rising over as opposed to the horizon? With the moon being dim that would possible remove any reflection.

I'll agree it does look a little strange without any reflected light on the water, however great spot to get the moon so large and with an object in the foreground for scale.

Here's my meagre effort from the night of the 8th (morning of the 9th just I think).

No, its the horizon its rising from. The exposure was 6 seconds at f8 which gives you an idea of how dim the moon was initially

Always good to receive a thank-you:thumbs:
That's the kind of pic I was hoping someone would get.
Didn't expect any grief to start on here though!

Yep it was clear here up until half an hour to go. My mile hike up a hill and down was all for nothing too haha.

Blimey that's really dim. Usually the moon is surprisingly bright.

Quickshooter - I can see what you were after and the colour of the moon works well with the streetlights etc.

Byker. Thank you its a shame if there was no clouds I think that photo would been really good. Ive never seen the moon that big! or that colour thats exactly the colour it was its not white balance. Very beautiful.

Yup I'll keep an eye out next time someone mentions this. I've seen the sun huge in the morning but never the moon in the uk.

Well Mondays Large and Low moon rise was last like that 50 years ago! So I guess ill be nearly 80 next time! cant see me climbing up 1800ft then haha

Really? Where is that info from? I got it a couple of years ago pretty much like it was the other night. Might not have been exactly the same size but not significantly different that you would notice.

oh right :) well thats good then. I heard that from a post on here. Well I just looked to give the link and cant actually see the 50 years bit now haha!! so im not sure lol DUH
