If you can get a clear view of the horizon on the 9th, you should get a great view of the full moon rising at 16:48.

Hopefully it will be a cloudless day. Managed to view this a couple of years back. Was a great site to see, didn't have a camera with me though.

Just a wee heads up if anyone is interested.
:)

Think I may have put this in the wrong section!!!

ideal .. i'll just be back at work ....lets hope for a clear night

Thanks, I'll be able to put those tutorials I've been reading all day in to practice :D

Not working that day, so should (clear sky allowing!) mange to get a shot :)
I use SunCalc with google maps but the developer's yet to implement the same for the moon. Any ideas where I can get similar info about where it will rise? Preferably without needing a degree in astronomy or map-reading :)
I'm on the east coast and would love it over the sea/horizon.

The Photographers Ephemeris should help you with sun and moon rise/set get a copy here:- http://photoephemeris.com/ It's a free download.

If you have an Android phone download the Sundroid app. Using the app it shows that the moon will rise at Azimuth 57.5 degrees at 16:39 on 9th January.

Again using the app (as I'm not an expert) this shows the moon rising over the North Sea at those co-ordinates

You could try downloading stellarium for the pc. Great wee program for a virtual planetarium, set your coordinates and it shows you what can see from where are.

Thanks for all the above tips, guys
Off to bed now, I'll look at all those this afternoon.
I wonder if The Smugglers (pub on Roker beach) is open that early ............. :)

The Photographer's Ephemeris is a useful (paid) app, now available on Android as well as the iPhone.

If it helps theres a nice moon settings bit in the Photo Tools app on android, sadly it doesn't show moon rise times, but does give sun rise including golden and blue hours.

Sundroid is a brill little app, i use in conjunction with ZP Compass - quite battery hungry but tells you where the moon will rise via the silver arrow, the only calibration needed is to wave the phone in a figure of 8.

Oooh great, last time I saw his was a good few years back when I was on holiday on Poole. I'll try and find out where it's going to rise from

Isn't that really late for the moon to be rising? Didn't I see it in a daylight sky the other day?

Not really. The moon is rising roughly 70 minutes later each day.
Download stellarium for your pc and play the scene on fast forward. You can track the moon or any other object.

Am l missing something? ... What's so special about this?

It's a joke... Bad moon rising is a song

I managed to get this one last night/this morning. Unluckily I couldnt sleep, but luckily for a few minutes the moon was popping out between the clouds.

and very nice it is too

Paul, that's fantastic.

This is my best effort. It seemed to be moving all over the place. I'm guessing that my equipment just isn't good enough.

Cloud here too... but if i had've gotten my act together and gotten out earlier like i had intended i would've gotten it.. grrrrrr....

ahh well, i managed to have a nice walk and a bit of a shoot anyhow :)

They all look pretty good. I don't normally bother with the full moon, it's much harder than other times of the cycle due to the lack of contrast. It's also cloudy tonight but I did manage to grab a shot through a cloud gap last night.

Watched the moon rise over the sea tonight.

Took some pics although I haven't had a chance to do proper processing yet. This one is pretty much straight from the camera. Just had levels tweaked in lightroom.
