Im looking at getting a Nikon 85 f1.8 G lens next week when the wages come in. I have looked at most of the UK is out of stock and await deliveries however the Amazon site state in stock. Many of the places selling that the orders are fulfilled by Amazon. Does this mean goods are dispached directly from Amazon and in stock somewhere, if not then what exactly does this mean.
 
"Fulfilled By Amazon" means that they hold the stock in their warehouse, and dispatch it to the customer, on behalf of the seller.

So it looks pretty safe then.. My worry was that i would send money, they would then look to see if it was in stock. Seems even though its by a 3rd party company their stock is held in Amazon warehouse and sent direct.. I need the lens about 1 week after ordering for a wedding im doing hence why i want to make sure i order from somewhere in stock.
 
I've bought a few (small) items that were FBA and the delivery process was just the same as a regular Amazon purchase.
 
Yeh, it's pretty safe. Bought loads thats been fullfilled by Amazon over the years, not had a problem yet, and everything's been in stock.
 
Just an update.. I paid for an 85f1.8G lens through Amazon over a week ago with the promise the item was in stock and for a delivery date on Wed last week. The item isnt shipped yet and wore still places like WEX etc are showing as in stock now. I emailed the seller and await his reply.So looks like i cant really trust the " Fullfilled by Amazon " part and will think seriously before trying to do the same again...:(
 
Really? Thats odd, I've never had a problem, although I also have an Amazon Prime which guarantees me next day delivery... I know that generally Amazon's dispatch times for "normal" postage can be fairly woeful, seems to me that they've ran out of stock in between the order and going to dispatch/fulfil the order.
 
surprised as Amazon are normally good with their stock levels, they shouldn't have charged you yet is not dispatched, just cancel and buy elsewhere if in stock.
 
I wonder are they having problems with their dispatching? I've been waiting over 2 weeks for a CF card - I emailed to ask where it was, they apologised, said it must be lost in the post and promised to send me another one first class - that was Thurs morning and the post has been today and it still hasn't arrived. (And no problems with the post at this end as an order I put into DSCL on Thurs lunchtime was here by Fri morning).

My order wasn't fulfilled by Amazon - it was direct from Amazon themselves.
 
I am a fan of amazon. Never an issue on my orders, both amazon and fulfilled by amazon. As I have Prime as well, I can get free next day delivery on most stuffs.
Though I am not sure if you get back to the seller or amazon when it is fulfilled by amazon. Amazon, I supposed as it is sent from their warehouse.
 
sometimes it's worth checking in the 3rd party sellers, not the used but the new section, as Amazon are sometimes hiding in there, as they might be charging slightly more so it will not be the one on the first page, but could only be a pound more or so or out of stock, Amazon tend to have better customer service than some 3rd party sellers so I prefer to buy direct if possible.
 
Amazon are still showing stock of the lens-well they were last night so it shouldnt be an issue with it going out of stock. The wife tells me the bank is showing the money out but as yet it doesnt show where its gone but that does take a day or two at times-will check later.

I will give it a few more days efore i decide to cancel as i would like to give them every oppertunity to send the lens.
 
The one issue with "Fulfilled by Amazon" is that the lenses can be grey imports.
 
I ordered a Tamron 28-75 f2.8 Last saturday, arrived Tuesday even without next day or quick service.

registered it with Tamron for the free 5yr Warrenty without problems. I wouldnt worry, just get your wallet out.

The only time I've bought a FBA lens it had a US serial number. So my experience is only a sample size of 1, but the lenses must be a cheaper for a reason?
 
Silly question, but are you sure you bought from the seller with the 'fulfilled by amazon' tag? If Amazon are out of stock, they will show you the cheapest supplier with the item from their market place, and obviously this can vary from visit to visit.

I say this because on a previous visit that has very nearly caught me out myself, and I nearly ended up buying the wrong item because of it.

I have bought literally hundreds of items from Amazon in the past 10 years and certainly many of those included items marked as fulfilled by Amazon. In every case the service has been identical to when using amazon normally.

No it's the seller's own stock that they ship to Amazon to store and to then ship out when sold.

The stock can be as good as anywhere else but it can also be gray imports or even returns they have sourced. That's the reason I will not buy expensive items unless from Amazon themselves as you can just not be sure where the stock has come from, very rare for 3rd party sellers to beat amazon on price anyway, if Amazon have it in stock.
 
Just an update-the lens came today and i have had a look at it. Its defo brand new and well packaged. I do find it very light and doesnt feel quite as good as my old 85 f1.8 D lens did as i like a heavy lens. This feels like it isnt as solidly built as the 1.8D.Its quieter and focusses very quickly. Its sharp enough at f1.8 to be useable and at f2.2 its very sharp.Overall im happy with the new lens but time will tell once i get more time to play with it.

The lens has came with a Nikon Europe garantee, does this mean it should be fine and under warranty here in the UK. Can you tell by the serial numbers where the lens originated from?
 
I usually try and stick with....Dispatched from and sold by Amazon.co.uk. even if it means paying a few more ££'s.

Why, perhaps it's stupid but It gives me a more comfortable feeling, and i have to feel comfortable :D

'STAY AWAY FROM IT'

I buy a LOT of things off Amazon, and I ALWAYS had a bad experience when I went with FBA, compared to the EXCELLENT service you get when you buy directly from AMAZON.

Personally, I would ALWAYS stick with "Sold by: Amazon EU S.a.r.L."

Nikon Europe Warranty is fine Mark :thumbs:

I have never had a problem with Amazon, FBA or 3rd Party, even when stuff has gone amiss, always resolved without a fuss.

Just bought a D300s from Amazon.

Delivered next day, Europe guarentee, british mains plug...all hunky-dory.

I have never had a problem with either system on Amazon, and that includes returning goods, but I chose to pay £10 extra for the D300s just to get Dispatched from and sold by Amazon.co.uk
