Yes
I was going through my attic and came across my old Fujica ST 801 camera which I purchased back in the mid to late 70's, this camera hasn't seen the light of day since the mid 80's...on blowing the dust off and cleaning it up all seems well and in good working order ( not even to dusty though the viewfinder, so screen and mirror seem ok )

The only thing that I could find wrong, is the little bit of foam that the mirror opens against is starting to fall apart ( dont know the proper name for this part ), does this matter too much or can I replace it ? ? ?.

So I guess it's time to get a roll of film and give it a try ( I take it you can still get films developed )

You need to replace the light seals and mirror buffer (thats whats coming off), its fairly easy to do and quite cheap. Most on here recommend Jon Goodman for seals, I'm sure they'll chime in soon with how to get them from him. If the seals are not replaced then you'll likely get light leaks on the film.

There are plenty of places doing film processing still and new film types are still being released. Check out the stickied 'Film Processing in the UK Thread' for a list of places which do processing etc.

That looks nice and clean!

I've fallen out of love with my digital cameras with their dim viewfinders (if at all) and plasticy feel.

Thanks Samuel and Des, after having another look the light seals around the door want replacing, So I will track down the parts needed and give it a go..

Steve.

Just make sure that when doing the seals around the mirror nothing touches the mirror or prism. It's quite a fiddly job, but can go quite badly if you do it wrong. Pretty much any of that old seal gunk touches it and you've got a very noticeable permanent mark you can see through your viewfinder. It's a mistake i've made with my last two ST-605Ns.

Steve, did you manage to track down a supplier for the light seals ?
I have a ST705 and am running my first B&W film through it. i suspected that the seals would need replacing but went ahead anyhow.

Ta, Chris.

Good luck with the ST705, I found a guy in west sussex that does the light seals by mail order, I think they cost me around a fiver for the kit.. if you find that you need seals pm me and I will find his web address..
