No. I still get image review in power saving mode

Check what Steven says. Are you able to compose the image on the LCD screen before you take a shot? If you can then i still suggest a full reset before you try anything else
Allan

You's are correct I only have view finder selected as I felt anything else would have a massive effect on the already poor battery life .

So, tomorrow, after ordering a couple of compatible batteries( lots of info on what are good ones in the thread) and putting your freshly charged battery in, I guess we are going to see lots of new images?

ok so got the out today for the 1st time with the x20 and im fairly impressed although I think ive to play around with the jpeg settings a bit. since flickr has changed I am having problems uploading images here as I cant find the code so here is a couple of links from some test shots. If anyone knows how to get the images to appear here then feel free to do what needs done.
these 3 images are jpeg straight off the camera and totally untouched

Stuart great start as shots beautiful especially the little girl. Especially considering there is no PP.

Hoping these are the ones Stuart wants!

Probably done the non FlickR preferred way... I think there are instructions how to do it right somewhere but it's bedtime and I CBA to do it right!

That's them thank you
The 3rd shot is not great but I think it shows the focusing capabilities of the camera as both kids were running flat out at me

Hi all

I'm a new X20 owner coming straight from the X10.

I've only had it a couple of days but it feels a big improvement on the X10 in my opinion, and I loved my X10.

The images seem so much sharper and the focus speed and OVF are huge improvements.

The other update that seems minimal but helps a lot is the relocation of the AF point selector button (not sure it that's the correct technical term). Being able to press the 'up' dial rather than using your left hand is a great move.

Looking forward to reading back through this thread and learning some tips.

Colin

Really nice photos. I like the perspective of taking them so low down to get the cobbles in like that.

I have a sweet spot for Prague, we got engaged in a restaurant under the church in the first photo.

Hi,
Please can you advise where you get the 10% discount code from.

Thanks

P10FEB15

Just tried it on the refurb site & it is still working

Need pills! Just enquired about the trade in value of a couple of SLR lenses I almost never use and they add up to an X-20 and a compact... I still have reservations about the X-20's VF info but do really fancy one! If only it was slightly more compact and fitted a shirt pocket.

Thanks John,

I am waiting on a refund from Wex for a Panasonic LX7 I returned on Monday. Will think about giving the X20 refurb a go when refund received.

Anyone bought a refurb from Fuji? If so, what is the quality of camera received?

From a value point of view, I am also considering a Nikon V1 twin lens kit which can be had cheaper than the X20. Anyone on this thread have any experience of using a Nikon V1 and how it compares to the X20.

I am disabled and want a smaller camera than my D7000 for taking to the football. I have tried a V1 and X20 in hand and they both feel comfortable for me to hold.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Simon

You're welcome Simon

After some reading of the LX7 thread I thought that was a really good camera but perhaps not in your eyes?

I owned a Fuji X10 Refurb from their shop but I've since sold as I have my own mobility problems which made it difficult for me to handle. The same, as many on the X10 thread, it came out looking in absolute mint condition except in my case the LCD was a little marked but not too bad & I accepted it as it was a lot cheaper than new & it was, after all, a refurb. However when I requested the sensor change because of the orb issue I mentioned the LCD & not only did they do the sensor but put in a new LCD & gave me a free replacement neck strap when I told them I had compromised the one they had previously supplied (long story).

So the Fuji service is 'top notch' & they pass the 12 month warranty on even if you sell it whereas some manufacturers don't.

Good luck

OMG an outbreak of GAS with the Nod man. Send for the men in their white coats & confiscate his assets

PS You'd never catch me buying another camera - or would you

Only on days with a "t" in them - montag, dienstag, mittwok etc!!! (excuse my execrable German - it's been well over 30 years!) Hands off my assets - don't touch what you can't afford!

You should use Google Translator mittwok is spelt wrong :suspect:

Back to --- what forum are we on ---

There are no ummlouts either! (Surprised I got the other 2 right anyway!)

Lenses in spare kit bag ready to take down for the trade in tomorrow (see, my GAS is under control - I could be waiting outside the shop now!) Might need to order the thing in - I've been very careful not to actually look at their shelves to see it so I'm not certain they have one in stock, especially in the silver finish.

I looked again at an X20, in store, a few days back & whist I agree it looks very beautiful I'm afraid I don't like the fiddliness of switching on/off, zooming & lens cap on/off.

So I stick with my Nikon P7700 ((an ugly brick like brute (Nod the camera not you ) but the fully articulating screen does it for me)) but my other half, who needs a change, will be selling on her Panasonic travel Zoom TZ30 & something else now on order for her but not Fuji. When I owned the X10 she liked the solid feel but not the features that put me off as she has Carpel Tunnel Syndrome & just couldn't cope with the controls. Well the ones she uses - on - off - zoom in - zoom out, errr that about it

I'll be getting another of the auto type petal caps and live with the very slight loss of VF they bring - the convenience far outweighs that (for me!) and IMO, they also make it impossible to leave the cap on when shooting - the very act of turning the thing on extends the lens so opens the cap! The only problem with this type of cap is that they make fitting filters a bit of a faff (OK, impossible while the cap's fitted!) but since I rarely use filters on compacts, again I'll live with that limitation.

Thanks for the reply John,

I felt that the colours from the LX7 were to Yellow, and it felt too small in my hands. I have nerve damage to both index fingers and the camera didn't feel safe to hold.

After looking at my budget and needs I think I will go for a Nikon V1 twin lens kit which can be had for £329.00. I think the extra zoom will be better for my needs, particularly when watching the football.

Also, I can buy the Ft1 adapter when funds allow, so I can use my other Nikon lenses.

Again, thanks for your help and good luck with the rest of this thread.

You're welcome & thanks for the update. At one time the Nikon V1 was on my shortlist because of the VF & the way the prices had come way down. Just bought my wife the Canon G15 which I may have a dabble with again with a VF - not a great one but better than none.

Just bought an x20 and it seems prone to underexpose. Need to try more variations but favours the left of the histogram quite a bit. ExComp by a full stop corrects it. I am used to shooting manual but the camera still guides to underexposed. Anyone else feels it underexposes?

Hi Matthew, Not doubting your ability but what have you got the dynamic range set at ?

I set mine to 100% and the exposures are very accurate. If it's set to any more I'm led to believe the camera underexposes to try and prevent the highlights from burning out, and then boosts the shadow detail with internal processing. This in turn will compress the tones and give the overall effect of underexposure.

Also it's very easy to knock the exposure compensation dial out of the zero setting to a minus setting, which I'm sure most of us using a X20 have done without realizing it thus giving underexposure.

Hope this helps.

George.

George that makes sense. New toy new settings and terms! I know my Nikons well enough but new to this Fuji range. I worked out that the underexposures where only happening in certain conditions but not got as far as the dynamic range setting; it was set to auto. I'll set the DR Setting to 100 and see how I get on. Also battery life not brilliant! Just bought more. Turned off the screen as well, don't use it in the main so see if that helps.

Hi Matthew, I had the same problems getting used to them as well and like yourself I use my Nikons as second nature.

The battery life will get better after a few complete discharges and recharges, but you are quite correct in keeping some spares.

When you get used to it and the 85% viewfinder you'll find that it is an extremely good little camera and is easily capable of prints at A3+ in size.

"ENJOY":thumbs:

George.

Only had mine a couple of days but find it's close enough to spot on. I have the DR set to 200% and it seems to be coping. Personally, I would rather have to bring up a slightly underexposed shot than have too many blown 'lights.

Getting there.... although it is soooooo small! Bought this for holiday and think I am going to enjoy it, it's starting to feel rather good.

This thread seems to be seriously trailing behind the X10 one... Maybe it's time to merge the two!

I was down in Cardiff briefly last weekend and gave the X20 a bit of fresh air. These are all tweaked from the in camera JPEGS rather than the RAW files.

3. There were a couple of issues with the curved surface of the Millennium Centre roof... The X20 didn't like it much in pano mode! :)

That thought occurred to me to! If anyone wants to champion it with the mods, then count me in :)

Nice set Si

Thanks Duncan! :)

I think that there's so much commonality between both cameras that it makes sense to me... There's not much of a radical difference between models. :)

I guess it might be worth asking in the X10 thread as well to see what everyone thinks.

As a poster in both (and a user of both as well as an XF-1), I would be more than happy for the merger to go ahead. In fact, IIRC, when the X-20 was announced, it was suggested that the X-10 thread be expanded to include all the baby X models.

I got me an X20 a few weeks ago part x'ed my gf2, I like it a lot, so easy to use I haven't even looked at the instructions yet haven't needed to everything is so easy to work out, I love the silly effects that I have never had before.

The one down side if you can call it that is how you turn the camera on and off, worst idea ever, but seems to be the only bad thing I can say about it, also I'm happy it hasn't a touch screen, I hate those things on a camera.

All taken at London Zoo through glass, I was quite impressed by the quality.

I'd be pretty happy to see a merger; apart from anything else, it would make it easier to ask questions like: has anyone compared the X10 and X20 in those areas where the EXR sensor was supposed to be so valuable (dynamic range issues, I guess)?

The only downside is that the X10 thread is already humungous, so X20 folk might find it hard to find their posts...

There is no doubt that the X10 and x20 are able to produce very similar images and a number of us now either have both or have migrated to the newer one. I am not yet convinced that the X20 is better than the X10 in low light, but it is certainly better as a raw shooter. Though Silkipix still has the edge on PS or lightroom.

I think it would now be logical to combine the threads and call it an Fuji Xxx Thread. It will not be long before the X30 comes along.
