I got mine from a local camera shop in Canterbury. You could try a search for smaller camera shops around your area and see if anyone has one.
I paid a little bit more for mine, but it means I am supporting local businesses and if anything goes wrong, I can take it back and talk to someone face to face.

( I got my X20 from Hong Kong though, so I'm not really an ethical shopper.....)

I love the look of it, and I think it's almost what I'm after in a compact - But ... I'm leaning towards the Ricoh GR expert, which is £400 cheaper, and does pretty much the same job.

The Ricoh beat the X100s, Nikon coolpix A and the Sigma DP2 Merrill in the 4-way face off in last month's Digital photo mag - I only looked back through that edition tonight, forgot they had that feature and I've been looking these cams up for the past 2 weeks or so.

I'd love the fuji's looks, and VF, but Ricoh's price tag and rear LCD [much higher quality than the fuji's]

When they price these cameras at £1000 or so, they put a lot of people well off - how come Ricoh/Pentax can do it for £400 less?? Such a pity. I just can't justify that expense [though Iwill have it after selling my Rx100] on a side-cam. If it was going to be my main maybe ...
 
If the X100s follows the X100 it will be down to £600 fairly soon whereas the Ricoh probably won't reduce much.

The viewfinder is a major part of the price I would think so that explains the Fuji difference but not sure where Nikon got their price from?

Is the Ricoh that comparable? For me the big plus on the Fuji aside from looks us the shutter dial and aperture ring giving me a proper manual feel.
 
Any time I look it up, it is directly compared to both the fuji and Nikon A. The Ricoh has 2 Fn buttons that can be set to pretty much anything you want, I believe.

The fuji is nicer looking for sure, and has the VF - but it's output I'm more concerned with. All 3 will deliver the goods in that dept I'm sure.

The layout/use of external controls is subjective. I have owned an X100 and a few Ricoh GRDs (the smaller, smaller sensor one) and for use and handling I prefer the Ricoh but then I don't use a shutter dial and having aperture on a wheel is actually quicker for me. The shape and texture of the Ricoh is much more comfortable to hold.

From an objective view they should be comparable (sensor, lens, IQ etc,.) with main difference being that viewfinder.
 
OK, I've been watching videos all night, my eyes are red'n'raw ... but I'm really liking the Fuji X100s now ... I have emailed an Irish B&M store, one I've bought from many times, to check for availability. They have it on their website - down as available on back order - for lower than most UK site prices. Just .. but I know they deliver fast, and it's only an hour bus ride for me to their store if I have issues. If they can promise it to me soon, I might just bite. I'm off to Turkey end of the month, and I'd love to have this with me. If I can't be guaranteed one by then, I'll reconsider. Here's hoping ...

Ordered this morning from a Store in Dublin, it's already been dispatched, whoop! Chances of getting it today? ... lol, ok, bit ambitious. But should have it some time tomorrow. Really looking forward to it, been watching videos on it all morning.

Well, I didn't get it yesterday :D But it arrived today. Had to charge up the battery, but have tried a couple of quick snaps to test.

This was taken at ISO 2500, Jpeg, f/2.8, at 1/15th sec - http://i.imgur.com/jvRZpkZ.jpg

If you click to 100% on the pad, the detail speaks for itself, as does the impressive noise performance.

I'm really going to like this!

I had it set to vivid, which explains the slight over saturation. Can't wait to give RAWs a good try out. And also compare images directly to my D800 with the 35mm attached.

Congrats on the new camera though, it really is nice and a worthy upgrade on the X100.
What put you off the Ricoh? I had considered one but the VF on the Fuji was one of the major factors that made the decision for me.
I guess all cameras have differences, and tests by other people are always subjective. One minor feature over another. The VF is a massive benefit for me and there really isn't anything out there that can compare to the whole package.

I'm absolutely loving it. Very happy with it and no issues hence lack of posts lol.
Regarding in camera JPG I have found it does give super smooth skin with nice colouring but I find the pic's a bit over sharpened and the blacks can be a bit overbearing. I still shoot jpg+raw but on the whole I keep the RAW and delete the jpg.

I honestly couldn't be happier with the camera. I'm shooting more than ever on family days out and I'm enjoying the days out more myself and annoying my family less than when i lugged my 5d3 about with me.

Best purchase I've made in years!
 
After reading many comparison reviews I opted for the Fuji over the Ricoh because of the brighter lens, f/2, it's also a little longer which suits me. It's more comparable to a 35mm on FX, which I find perfect. Also that hybrid VF I think is great. I think the only thing the Ricoh wins on is the quality of the LCD. And to be honest, if nobody told me the Fuji one was 'only' 460,000 dots, I'd have just assumed it was 912K - I think it's crystal clear and good quality enough for previews and changing options. Nobody really needs more, they just do it because they can. The screen on back of my D800 only ever gets used for a quick preview. Well, i do zoom to pixel peep on that at times, but it's a different animal. Just the preview will do nicely on the fuji.

It really is a pleasure to shoot with. I feel relaxed, I'm smiling when using it. After a couple of days going in and out of all the options I feel like I know it pretty good already, and there'll be no head-scratching when I'm in shooting on the move. I now have it set to high performance mode, something that should be default out of the box I feel - and it is much snappier.

One thing that did surprise me was the size of the RAW files. I have the D800 set up at reduced RAW file size, losless compressed 12 bit, because tbh you don't notice any difference between that and 14 bit uncompressed, apart from one being almost double the size file. And the Fuji RAWs are just as large!

We seem to be dropping off the forums here, so I have posted a few pics from a recent trip around France.

I've been using the camera loads, but mostly just family shots, the kids, the cats, nothing exciting. I finally got the adapter ring I ordered, only to discover it's the wrong kind. Bah!! The 49mm side is male thread, where it should be female ... it's useless. Had hoped to use it to attach the Raynox 150 I bought. I'll order the right one next, but won't have it in time for my trip to Turkey

I'll make good use of the camera over there at least.

Apologies for bringing up a 4 month old thread but I just pulled the trigger on one of these during a moment of retail therapy in the smoke. Brilliant!
I'll post some results later.
The absence if any posts since June suggests that people are happily out there increasing their shutter count!
 
I have been using mine mostly for family snaps I have to admit. I just haven't been shooting as much in general, only reason - andif it's anything to go by I have at least been using the X100s more than my D800E the past few weeks.

I have some small jobs upcoming that should get me back into the swing of things, and it will be my back up camera for those :) It's certainly capable enough.

Just the other day I took some shots of the kids indoors, without flash, at ISO 3200 - 4000 - and they turned out great.
 
ha, know the feeling well. I have a Think tank roller, and a Kata back-pack already for larger gear. And she's always asking "do you really need them"?

That one linked is very small, I don't even call it a 'bag' more a 'case' - if that'll help you get away with it ;)

I'll do my best, after I have thought of an excuse for parting with a grand. I know what's coming, " I thought you bought a camera already". I do love her though......something kept us together for 35 years........ Probably the prospect of 14 years to life if I buried her under the patio.
 
Picked up an X100s today, just playing sat at my desk so far sorting out options... finding the viewfinder a bit of a let down so far, but I haven't been out with it yet to use in anger.

The OVF is nice, but there's no indication of focus, besides estimating the distance, unless I'm missing something. Suppose the way the camera works you're kind of stuck with that.

Focus peaking works well, besides being really ugly to look at all day of course. The EVF is really dark though. I have shoved the brightness up to +5 but it didn't seem to make any difference. Anyone else find this? It's probably OK indoors, or in even light. But anything remotely backlit and it becomes almost unusable. Too dark to focus, switch to the OVF and you can see fine, but can't focus - so you're left with guessing or hitting the AF and hoping..

Hi James, I too have just taken delivery of an X100s and none of the problems you are experiencing exist with mine. It's a fabulous bit of kit.

Could you perhaps have a faulty unit? or maybe just need to play with the menus for a little longer.

The ovf doesn't have an indicator during manual focus. You need to use it as an evf if you want an indicator in manual focus mode. There are focus indicators in the ovf in the af modes.
