Just putting this out here presently as I've got a GAS attack and keep thinking about going back to a DSLR from my current Fuji X-T1 set up. Lots of reasons for and against, I like the weight and size of the Fuji system, love the prime lenses but do dislike issues such as the battery life, slow(ish) AF speed, low light focussing etc.

Being relatively heavily invested in Fuji kit, the budget is pretty limited, not quite able to stretch to the D750, so was considering maybe a Nikon D610, Canon 6D or even the older series of D700 Nikon or Canon 5D2.

Wondering if anyone had flipped from Fuji back to DSLR of similar choices and thoughts.
 
I moved from a Canon 5D1 along with 24-70 2.8 setup to Fuji last year (X-E1 though) and after a few months went back.

I fist went to a 60D and then back to the 5D, that was until last week I felt I just wasn't happy with the weight, bulk and general not using the camera because it was to cumbersome.

I'm now looking at selling up and moving to a X-E2/X-T10 again... The grass isn't always greener as they say. Sorry this probably doesn't really help you much.

I bought an X-Pro1 to replace an ageing 5D1 originally a couple of years ago and from there added the X-T1 to it around 18 months ago.

I think I've kind of bought into the hype quite a bit with Fuji/mirrorless but am starting to recognise the limits (or focus etc) and thinking how to alleviate these

If you are comfortable with the bulk / weight of a DSLR and lenses, then you will almost certainly get better low light AF performance (with the right lenses of course) - my 6D is very good in low light :) What you may miss though is the crazy good auto white balance of the Fooj, and of course the WYSIWYG of an EVF, giving you opportunity to quickly change the exposure before it's too late.

Have you invested in many Fuji XF lenses Dave?

I changed to the 'X' system from shooting with the Nikon D800 & Zeiss glass. I think if I were to ever change my Fuji X system it would be to the Sony A7Rii system although their range of Sony lenses are not that expansive and fast as the Fuji XF selection apparently.
 
I'm lucky in that I can afford to have both a Fuji kit and an FF DSLR kit. For me, both set ups have their advantages so I choose whichever system is best for the situation.
 
I went from Nikon FF to X-T1 (through a Sony SLT, but that's another story) I moved from FF as I had a baby and had to carry enough stuff everywhere without the bulk of FF.
Like you, the IQ of the Fuji & primes never dissapointed, but the AF speed & speed of operation did, The on-sensor phase detect was tolerable, but only on the central points & you never knew quite which "mode" would disable the phase & use contrast only which would then often hunt.
I've been back with Nikon FF for a few months now & do not regret it at all, except for the bulk of the 200mm F2, but then again there's no comparable lens for the Fuji.

Each system has a compromise, FF Dslr is size & weight, & that's the compromise I'd rather live with. (Having said that, I do have a Ricoh GR that I pocket when not out on a photowalk)
 
What type of photography you do is one of the biggest factors. Still like the tones from my D700, the battery life, my D7100 has snappy autofocus rarely missing a shot... The Fuji battery life is pretty dire, slowish AF, but then if you were doing stuff at a moderate pace it is unlikely to be an issue. As someone said, it's not always bad to have a few weapons of choice in the armoury...although I'm not sure you ever master all of them (speaking for myself of course! :-) )
 
I sold a load of Canon gear and went for a Fuji XT-1 with the 18-135 and the 27mm, basically because the Canon gear was not getting used as I was finding it too heavy to cart round .
I did however keep my 5DMk2 and the 24mm TS-E and 15mm fisheye and bought a sigma 50mm f1.4 for when I needed low light capabilties,
I now find I have rediscovered my photography mojo with the Fuji due simply for the fact it is a lot more portable and when I want something a bit specialized I still have the FF
 
I swapped to Fuji from Canon about 2 years ago then swapped back to Canon. I'm now thinking of going back to Fuji. I really dislike the weight of the Canon kit. I used to do a lot of press work with the X-T1 and found it a joy to use. I just get a bad case of GAS.
 
I added an X Pro-1 with the 35 & 18mm lenses to my camera bag with the intention of using it for walkabout stuff etc.
I kept my Nikon D700 and lenses though.
Sadly I just don't get much use out of the Fuji, as I always reach for the Nikon gear first !
In fact, I tried selling the Fuji kit, but there was no interest in it.
I like the X Pro-1, I just need to use it !
 
I guess the trouble is that Mirrorless doesn't quite beat DSLRs as yet. They are a great alternative and for me, suit 90% of what I shoot but the AF isn't quite up there with DSLRs yet in my opinion. As mentioned it depends largely on what you shoot.
Having gone away with the X-T10 and a couple of lenses in a Hadley Small, the weight feels next to nothing which to me is a big plus. The Fuji's are great to use, have awesome lenses and produce great files. I mostly use my Fuji X or M8 when shooting digital. The size has certainly played a part in me getting out there shooting and enjoying it, which for me is the main thing.
 
I ditched my D300 a while ago for m43, then eventually found the Fuji range. Xe2, then xpro1 ( twice) then XT1.
Of course, then I missed the Dslr so I sold all my Fuji kit to get a Nikon D750.
Problem was, I missed the Fuji's and their size and convenience, so went through the previous steps, as funds allowed, I now have a brand new Xpro1 and brand new XT1. I'm keeping the Nikon though, it's just too good to sell ( at the moment) so now I have both systems to choose from.
