I've decided I need a walkabout lens to go on my Fuji XT-1, something that equates to the Canon 28-105L I'm about to sell off.

I'm looking for ideas on what lens to stick on my XT-1 that does a similar job. I have the 18-55mm that came with it but I'd kinda like to save that for the XT-2 I bought a few weeks ago.

What I'm looking for is a lens that can go on the body in a small camera case that can travel with me in my new job as I will get a few minutes here and there to stop. I'd like something thats not to big but will keep me a little distant for street photography or get in a bit closer for those more intimate shots.

Open to ideas, not bothered whether second hand or new, old model or not.

Chris, if you want a zoom there are not many options

18-135 it's quite big!
18-55 you've got one but are saving it for your X-T2
16-50 Small/light maybe the best choice but plastic body - cheapest option,
16-55 F2.8 put this on your X-T2 and put the 18-55 on the X-T1, the IQ answer (and most expensive!!)

I found the 18-55 to be a good performer.
Get another..

!8-135 for maximum versatility, 18-55 for a bit less versatility and size, your favourite FL prime for smaller and lighter with less versatility still. 100-400 if your walk abouts involve walking about looking for birds!!! :P

A 16-50 went for £60 on here last night,a bit underrated lens i think, plastic or not.

18-135, I use mine lots. People (some) knock it because they compare it to the iq of primes but it's a superzoom and gives fantastic fuji quality over a wide range. If you're not planning on shooting indoors or in low light it's great. The ois is brilliant too.

27/2.8 for compactness, 23/1.4 for image quality.

That was very underpriced especially if it was a mkii version, would have felt guilty buying it for that.

Very good lens indeed, wouldn't sell mine and the extra 2mm at the wide end over the 18-55 often comes in very handy

Thanks for the input, time to do some thinking before I spend. Last time I didn't I ended up with an xt-2 100-400 and 1.4tc. My wallet is still stinging lol

I'll throw in either the 23f2 or 35f2, fast autofocus, relatively compact, waterproof and good walkabout lengths (pick the length that suits your shooting style).

For price vs flexibility the 18-55 takes some beating and is optically very good, the 18-135 isn't quite as good optically IMO but does give you more range.

Hard to buy a bad Fuji lens though :)
