Just been reading a little about the Fuji XF60 f2.4 as I am keen to get a decent macro lens to pair up with my X-T1. What are peoples view/thoughts on this lens for the 'close up' stuff? The minimum focus isn't particulrly impressive. I have also seen some comments about lens flare when focusing in close.

Any alterntives?

The Zeiss 50mm is a 1:1 macro lens and the only alternative for AF lens? I think Nick, Blank Canvas (spl) has one. Worth dropping him a PM for his thoughts?

I had the 60mm when I had the Xpro1 and for close work I found it fine, Im not to stable on my feet to handheld macro. I had no problems with flare myself. I also found it great for portraits, others will say it's slow but for me I didn't find it a problem. For me, out of the original Fuji lenses, I found this one to be the sharpest corner to corner IMO. Finally, theres a seller on ebay who does extension tubes, I dont know if this will give you 1:1 but it may be worth asking the seller.

:agree: which much of what Simon said about the 60mm,sold when i got the 56mm as Simon said Zeiss is the only one if you want ture 1:1 macro :)

Forgot to mention, if you dont mind manual focussing, which most people do with macro, you could try an older macro lens in m42, Canon FD mount etc...... with an adapter. I had a Vivitar 50mm f2.8 in M42 mount, an excellent lens and highly regarded, I only sold it on as I wasnt steady enough to use.

Also, if you look on the Macro thread theres also the option of Raynox lens adpaters, which fit onto the front of your kit lens. I'm not sure on these, so your best bet is asking in that section.

Pete, I'm into macro/close up and use a Fuji X-T1 for some of my shots. I don't actually use the 60mm Fuji lens as it only offers focusing down to half life size on its own, but of coarse you can get auto extension tubes for the Fuji X system to give you closer focusing.

This might be worth you considering though, I personally use a "Micro Nikkor 105mm F2.8 D" lens with an adapter for Fuji/Nikon and have had some very good results with it, and they can be had second hand for cheaper than the Fuji lens they also focus down to 1-1 without any extension tubes. Obviously you need to focus manually which you would probably do anyway for macro work but you can still use them in aperture priority or full manual exposure modes on the Fuji and being a 105mm focal length (about 158mm equivalent on the Fuji) would give you a much more comfortable working distance. The reason I mention the (D) lens is because it has an aperture ring which makes it aq lot easier to use on the Fuji than a legacy lens without an aperture ring. Another alternative would be a "Tokina 100mm" macro lens which once again offers 1-1 focusing and has an aperture ring.

There are of coarse other ways of getting close to subjects such as just using extension tubes with whatever Fuji lenses you have or even attaching something like a Raynox 150, 250, or 202, to the front of whatever lenses you have or even using both the tubes and a Raynox. These Raynox lenses can give very good results and quite a few people in the macro section of the forum use them including myself. I wouldn't be surprised if other people come up with some other ideas for you as well as mine.

Hope this all helps you a bit.

George.

Really appreciate the comments, thanks all. A little more reading to do then on the suggested alternatives. I don't want to spend megabucks, as I'm not heavily into macro photography, but would like to have a bit of a 'play' to see how I get on.

I had the 60mm macro lens. It was slow to focus in AF mode and it isn't a true 1:1 macro. Image quality is good, but that's what you's expect with Fuji. I sold it.

In it's place I bought a Nikon fit Vivitar 55mm macro lens. A true 1:1. Manual focus only on the fooj, but that's pretty normal for macro work. Obviously I had to get an adapter to fit on the fooj. Image quality is superb. F16-f2.8.

Now I'm about to have a knee replaced (next Tuesday!) so I won't be grubbing about doing macro work for some time - if ever again. Happy to sell the lens at less than half what a 60mm will cost; hint, hint! You won't be disappointed.

Hi Graham. I bought the lens on the recommendation of Wingtsun who changed his name to THIRTYFIVEMILL on here. He was a whizz at macro. Took shots that were published, so I assumed that he knew his stuff.

This is the first shot I took with it

and you can even see hairs on the side of the bottle on the uncompressed version. Hope you can too.

We'd have to trade through classifieds, of course. Lens cost me £110 and the adapter was approx £15. I'd let it go for £100 posted, but be quick - I go into hospital at 07;45 on Tuesday morning so I'm going to be laid up in bed for a while. No box!!!!!!!
