Fuji X-E1/X-E2/X-E2S/X-E3 Owners Thread

Itching for Fuji to send me out my 55-200 (free lens offer) - been a week now....

Also should take delivery tomorrow of the 14mm and 60mm's as part of a trade deal on the forums for one of my canon (L)enses....

The migration is taking shape.....

I'll then have

X-E2
14
35
18-55
60
55-200
Minolta 50mm f1.4 & Canon FD 100mm - which are being used on adapters - need to decide if it's worth keeping these or offload...

I'm waiting to see if Fuji bring out a flash equal in quality to the 430EXii or 580EXii I've been used to.

Looking forward to my summer :)

Oh and just to remind those upgrading their X-E1 or X-E2 firmware...

Write down all your old settings first as everything gets wiped when you do the upgrade....

Sighs.....

and if anyone is looking the latest lens firmware can be downloaded from here:
http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/#lens_firmware
& the body firmware here:
http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/#firmware

The 35mm seems to focus a lot quicker now the lens and body are both on the latest....

Well it arrived this afternoon. Only had a little play with it but I already love this camera. The looks and feel are spot on and it feels very liberating moving from a DSLR. Have updated the firmware for both the body and lens. Also the ISO performance is just something else, admittedly I was coming from a 600D but anything from 800 upwards was generally unusable. Right now, I'm happily editing an image at 3200 and it looks fantastic. Genuinely blown away by it.

Edit: First one of the boy

I just had a "stupid bloody camera!" moment.
Some cute pics of our boy in a captain's hat : came out way too dark. I was about to dive into menus and figure out the settings when I noticed both the speed dial had gone from A to 2000 and the exp dial was at -2
Stupid bloody camera!
I shall watch those dials like a hawk from now on ... (luckily I also took some pics with my trusty e-pL2)

Yep I had the same with my XF-1 the other day - completely blew my shots out.. thankfully was able to recover most of them in LR.. but yes its something to religously watch out for on the Fujis

Hi Simon, Yes you can use your Canon flash on the X-E2 but without dedication ie the camera can only be used to fire the flash. Any adjustments to the flash output will have to be done on the flash itself in manual mode or auto aperture etc.

The flash will not set the correct shutter speed to the camera when it is connected, this you will have to do manually (remember not to set it faster than the maximum sync speed or you'll get image cut off). I would recommend you use the camera in manual mode where by you set the shutter speed & aperture yourself and then set an auto aperture on the flash to correspond to the same aperture you have set on the camera to get the correct exposure.

You will obviously have to make sure the ISO settings on the camera & flash are the same.

Hope this all makes sense.

George.

There is an ISO setting on the Canon 430EXii ???

I just whack it on Manual mode (the flash) and adjust to taste....

Excellent thanks George, very clear. Do you know if the flash on the XE2 can be used to trigger the 430exii off camera?

Hi Simon, I'm not deadly sure of that one but as they are completely different systems I would say no. But If I am wrong no doubt someone will be along shortly to either correct me or confirm what I have said.

George.

You are wrong ;)

So you can use the Fuji flash to trigger the 430ex? There is a commander setting in the flash settings, presuming this will trigger the external flash without the on-board flash affecting the exposure. Will have to have a play about.

For anyone worrying about quality issues changing over from existing systems I sold a 30 x 20 inch sized print of one of my shots at weekend, first time ive blown one up to this since ditching dslr and have to say was really pleased with quality all round.

Nice one Photo ? :)

Took delivery of my handle/grip from Hong Kong at last...but surprise surprise I get the broken one..grrrrrr. Because they sent it assembled someone has obviously overtightened the screw that holds the upright part that you dont need for using just as a grip effectively "burring" the screw so the Allen key just turns in it. Bloody typical after waiting all that time. Otherwise the actual thing is very well made, solid and fits the xe2 very well. Messaged the company as I decided that given the grip can still be attached to camera and said piece actually is quite good at other side for holding and I didnt want to go through all that waiting again they have given me £10 off the grip which I am happy with so good communication all round.

How about a photo :)

Try a different Allen key to the ones supplied Karen.
Mine was exactly the same and think the bolts holding the short side have a slightly larger head size.
If you really want to remove it pretty sure I have a spare that will fit, happy to post it to you

Thanks I tried a few I had but to no avail then I trotted down to Dewsons and tried a brand new one...no luck

You could drill the heads off the screw on both sides as that would relive the pressure. Then you would be able to take the remaining stud out using a pair of pliers.
