Ha ha. Any chance you could make it even easier and pay the difference? Seriously though, if they are equally sharp and the oof looks good at F2.8, I'd probably be happy with the 60.
 
Then again, f1.2 is very seductive to have up your sleeve even if you don't use it every time.
 
OOI, has anyone here got their hands on a 56f1.2 yet ? First impressions ?

depends what you want to shoot with it...most of mine is with ofc, so going down to f1.2 ia pretty much overkill and surplus to requirements....if you shoot a lot of natural light, the 56 will suit you better
 
My 56mm has just arrived on my desk. Looks and feels great, very solid, no play in the mount, aperture ring is smooth and maybe a little too easy to change but as it will lie on 1.2 most of the time I don't worry too much about that. Snaps look lovely viewed on the LCD screen, nice falloff in the depth of field. First looks, I am very happy.

Firstly, your kids are much more compliant than mine ! I cannot get mine to pose no matter what the inducement.

Secondly, these are really nice images even viewed on the phone. I am sure they will look even better when viewed on the computer later.

The 56f1.2 looks great in terms of sharpness and bokeh.

I started them early - they are now used to humouring dad when he gets a new lens or camera. We have a set of shots I take (front door, back door, in the front room by the painting, in the stairwell under the skylight) and I think they know the routine off by heart now.

I am pleased with the 56mm. It is all I hoped for to be honest.

Mmm. I am not sure I would be much good at that kind of thing to be honest. I don't do anything that involves delving into the menus as one of the benefits of Fuji is that its cameras are like the basic film cameras I grew up using. All I do is set the aperture with the shutter speed on automatic, shoot in Raw, auto iso (or adjust via fcn button) and then ride the exposure correction wheel. So variation between the intricacies of the bodies are often lost on me, I am afraid.

All three take lovely pictures that are - to my eyes - virtually indistinguishable. I am sure there are differences but given I shoot Raw, don't look at 100% crops except to judge sharpening, and tend to fiddle with my pictures quite a bit in post I really don't see enough cross-body variation to worry about.

How they feel in the hand is obviously person specific. I always thought I would like the XP1 most as I have big hands but once the grip is added (and a thumb grip) the XE1 and XE2 are my first choice. One major advantage for me of the XE2 is the +/- three stop exposure adjustment wheel as the other two only have +/- two stops which I found restrictive. I don't use wifi and while the button layouts vary across models I rarely use them anyway. I think the 180x flash sync setting on the XE2 will be useful on those occasions I drag out the lights.

If I get time over the weekend I will try to do some quickly posed portraits (what I mostly do) taken with the different bodies and see if there is anything meaningful to say about them. If there is something specify you would like to know please tell me and I'll see what I can do.

For now, here are a couple of snaps taken at sunset tonight (XE2 and 56mm):

Hi Ian

The similar IQ is really of most interest to me as I am considering another body to go with the XE2. Ergonomics etc... are really a personal choice as you mention. Thanks for the great images. The f1.2 is very tempting !

Hi Ian, having those three Fuji bodies, looks like you are the right person to ask :)
Currently, I'm using the Fuji x100 as my everyday camera. I like the x100, but there are times I find the focal length limiting and focusing speed not that good. So I have been toying on this idea to replace it with with a Fuji body with interchangeable lens. Been to the photography show and had a quick play with the three bodies, X-E1, X-E2 and the X-Pro1.
If I may ask, how do you find their respective focusing speed? Based in my quick play on the three bodies, I found the X-E2 AF speed bit faster compared to the X-Pro1, while the X-E1 is the slowest among the three and just a little bit faster to the x100 (feel free to correct this).

The EVF on the X-E2 is much clearer and sharper compared to the two bodies, is this a big deal?

I had a look in your thread for the Fuji comparison and to my eye, the image quality are almost the same. Thanks in advance! :)

I cannot see any difference between these shots, which isn't really a surprise as the sensor is the same in two cameras and only tweaked in the third. These aren't particularly testing conditions either - good light, good contrast. Maybe something would show up if I shot at high iso in near darkness but I don't take those kind of shots so don't really care.

AF speed was also indistinguishable. But again, this is in excellent conditions. I have had the xe1 and xp1 longer and don't notice too much difference across more difficult conditions. The xp1 might be a hair faster but not enough for me to regularly notice. I am sure the XE2 will be faster in worse conditions but you would be best to rely on a proper scientific test than my rough and ready approach. More important to me is that all three seem very accurate when focussing. I don't need fast AF any more now I've stopped chasing kids and rugby players (I should perhaps phrase that a bit better...) and the one thing that constantly bugged me about using top end Canon stuff was the focus wasn't always perfect. I can count on one hand the number of out of focus shots I have taken with the fujis (excluding user error).

Regarding the EVF - the XE2 is better but I don't need critical sharpness in the viewfinder. I frame a pic, choose and aperture, rely on the histogram to tweak exposure. I don't really care about what detail I can see through the VF, I just want detail in the file. So, for my use, the detail in the VF isn't critical either.

I would say that there are only two critical differences between these bodies for me - first, the xe and xp cameras feel quite different in the hand. I've come to prefer the xe (with grip and/or thumb-thingy) but my son prefers the xp1. Then, of course, there is the price.
 
I have XF1, X100, X-E1 and X-E2. The X100 was my workhorse camera for a year, until I decided I wanted more lens flexibility, so I bought an X-E1 plus 35mm (and free 18mm). Shortly afterwards bought an X-E2 with 18-55 zoom and sold the X-E1 body (to a fellow forum member), only to buy it back a few weeks ago!!!

My thoughts:-

1) Remember the X-E1/X-E2 are higher resolution than the X-100, though not the X100S
2) EVF on X-E2 is notably better, brighter and sharper than X-E1/X100 and appears to have less lag.
3) I don't do a lot of fast AF, but X-E2 is notably faster overall
4) Regarding Image Quality, they are all very good, colours though seemed punchiest on X-E1 (that is straight from the JPEG)
5) Currently the X-E1 (and X100) are fantastic value for money
6) The 18-55 Zoom is very good (for a 'kit' zoom), and I would question the need for the 18mm unless you want the wider aperture
7) If you want a camera to slip in your pockect then the XF1 is hard to beat!

Currently I have the X-E2 as my main Fujinon lens body, and am using the X-E1 for experimenting with manual lenses.
 
Lovely shot Ian, the 56 is looking very, very tempting !

Not exactly up to Ian's standard above but I had a bit of a play last night by hooking my XE2 up to a Siggy 300 and stacked x2 and x1.4 TCs so getting 1260 mm of FL. This is quite a heavy crop as well. I was limited by not having a cable release plus I do have a rubbish tripod but below is an example of a moonshot which I quite like.

Hi all, I bought my XE2 at the NEC photography show earlier this month, must say quite like it. It was on offer on the Calumet stand with 18-55 and XC50-230 zooms plus extra battery and grip. Also purchased the 14mm last week.

Like it so much have now sold my 5D2.

A quick X-E2 viewfinder question. Is it possible to have no information in the viewfinder? I've had a look at the manual and there seems to be a no info setting. However, there's a no info setting for the screen on my X10 but as soon as the shutter release is half pressed a load of clutter appears and the bottom of the screen is blocked out. Drives me round the twist. I don't want no stinking viewfinder info! Advice appreciated.

Yes you can switch of everything in the viewfinder,you just need to go into viewfinder custom setting and then just untick everything and you get a nice clear viewfinder :)
