Fuji x-e1 with 18-55 lens deals/image quality

Guys i'm going to give mirrorless one more bash and this time i'm going to purchase the x-e1 and 18-55 lens. I can get this combination for under £500 from the re-furb shop at Fuji and i was wondering if anyone has this pairing how it compares to say an EPL5 with decent glass. Also if anyone has seen it for cheaper of bundled with other lenses which are a good deal lease let me know.
 
Buy it elsewhere and you will receive a free 50-230mm lens! And it will be a bit cheaper :) Take a look at the Fuji website for a list of retailers: http://www.fujifilm.eu/uk/products/digital-cameras/promotions/

As for the cameras, I can compare it to the E-PL5 directly.

Plus points for Fuji - better buttons, lovely shutter speed dial, viewfinder, nicer to hold (subjective), easy to isolate subjects because of the bigger sensor, decent high ISO performance (but remember that Fuji overstate everything by 2/3rds stop e.g. ISO 3200 is actually ISO 2000)
Plus points for Olympus - Fits in a smaller bag, cheaper lens options, touch screen is cool and useful for shooting with, quick shot to shot review time, AF is quick (although slows in low light if using slow focusing lenses like the Panasonic 20/1.7)

Negatives for Fuji - Viewfinder lag, particularly in lower light, slow image write times, AF is slow in low light
Negatives for Olympus - Noise can be found even at base ISO, higher ISO shots break up quicker than with the Fuji, buttons too small for me, no viewfinder, harder to isolate subjects due to the smaller sensor
 
I think the cheapest i saw the free lens deal was £589 so that's roughly £150 more than the refurb shop and i'm not sure how good or how much the 50-230 lens is. I will need to check it out.

True, but if you sell the free lens then the price comes down to about £409 ;)
 
That's what I was wondering. I had no idea how much the free lens sold for here. If it was good hearing would keep it.

Yes at Fuji refurb £439 and I think the PAYPAL12 code still works to get another 10% off. I have 3 Fuji X cameras and several lenses. The Xe-1 is a great camera , the 18-55 is a great lens and the price is too good to miss (hence no stock at present).

The only problem will be that you will want to start building your lens collection. So far I have not found a bad one. I have moved over to the system from full frame Nikon D700.

Only real thing missing is a good auto flash system (ttl) but the new Nissin next month will sort that I hope.

At the end of the day the Fuji X cameras are just that - cameras, but they are very special.

Go for it - you will not be disappointed!
 
I've just gone the other way. I sold my 35mm and got a epl5 and plan on getting the 45mm next pay day. I've kept the xe1 for the time being to use with a few MD mount lenses. Reason being the auto focus with the xe1 just couldn't keep up with a hyper 4 year old that now goes by the name of "oi you jack, just stand still". I had a ep3 45mm and 20mm before the Fuji and regretted selling it. If funds allow I might try and get a 18-55 for the Fuji when they start to drop in price. I would agree agree with all that manualfocus-g has said.

I found i had loads of missed/out of focus shots with my EPL5 so it's a bit worrying that the XE1 is slower. I like you have a kid who never stops for a minute but he's 2 going on 3 and standing still for photos in just not tennis. I took my EPL5 on holiday and immediately i wished i had my 50d that i had parted with. I had very few missed shots with that camera and 50mm lens in comparison.

I've never used the 18-55 so that may be okay. I enjoy using primes and the focus using the 35mm was slow.

blimey I have never had so many caught/in focus shots with the EPL5 from a CSC it is just lightning fast with both the touch to shoot and button, its one of the most trusted cameras for me.

negatives are I don't think it suits zooms, you can get them and they work brill but it just doesn't feel right, its a prime lens camera for me all day long and an absolute beauty with the Lensbaby or 9mm fisheye.

I honestly think it was something to do with looking at a screen instead of through a viewfinder and i wasn't using the touch screen either as i hadn't had the camera long enough to realise how useful it was. I think it was certainly partly my fault i just felt so much more comfortable with the viewfinder of my previous cameras. I on;y used the 14mm and 45mm and i think both are really decent lenses.
