Fuji S5 pro owners

There was no clipping in this image at all, the noise in the sky is from the boosting of the blue channel to bring out what little colour there was. Damn Scottish skies!

Have been shooting with Fuji Dslrs for a decade now starting with S1pro S2pro S3pro and finally what looks to be there last DSLR the S5pro.
Still have a boxed new sealed spare as well.
So I guess it speaks for itself.
People say they are not sports cameras but I used my old S1pro bodies for motor sport ie motorcycle racing and rally cross.
I have in fact a 7 frame sequence of a crash that was taken using a S1pro fitted with a slow 1gig micro-drive which managed to capture the action.
Even with sport a lot of the time it's down to just 1 or 2 frames that give that moment your after.
And even 10fps does not guarantee you have capture that precise moment.
I don't foresee me ever selling my Fuji Dslrs I fully expect them to out live me! which is fine by me :)
Yep Im still a user and would recommend one to any serious tog who want quality rather than quantity.

I knew I should never have opened this thread!

Can somebody be kind enough to point me in the direction of a cheap Fuji S3? :D

Cheers Stuart
You will be struggling to get a nice S3 Pro..there like rocking horse poop....There a tad slow..use XD cards in them not compact flash as they write much faster to them..but when it comes to dynamic range they take some beating

Camera: Nikon D3 D2x D2H D1x D1H D1 D80 D50

Your kit bag would suggest otherwise.

So what would you lot say to a Fuji S6 Pro based on the Four Thirds standard utilizing the EXR technology (self adjusting dynamic sensor)?

I would say bring it on...Fuji need to open there eyes there a big market out there waiting for the next model to arrive

:agree: It's the slowest camera I've ever used, it's also the one that'll stay when the others go on their merry way :)

Slow as a week in the jail.....that's a good old Glasgow expression

If you think the S5p is slow you should get your hands on a Fuji S3pro ;)
More like a slow month in jail:cuckoo:

I Have a couple of them "S5pro" along with the rest of Fuji Dslr models.
My first Dslr was the Fuji S1pro and my 2nd Dslr was the S2pro which I still have but rarely use now, but they can still turn out some *** images if called on.
Always loved them for colours and skin tones, ideal for portraits and weddings where quality rather than quantity counts!

Yes But if you look in there you will also find 2x S1pro,2x S2pro,1x S3pro and a couple of S5pro bodies.
I recently went out with Andy AKA oskanoears
We took a couple of my S2pro bodies both fitted with Nikkor 50mm f1.2 lenses "No metering and No Autofocus on what turned out to be a interesting afternoon and a good discipline.

have you tried using XD cards in the S3 Pro...they run much faster than they do with compact flash cards

I have a S5 Pro and I'm shamed to say it very rarely gets used, I don't think I've taken a shot with it for over a year.

I got it a few years back when someone here posted a link to Fuji who were selling refurb at a discount but at the same time there was a code with a massive % (25?? 33??) off anything on their web site. I'm pretty sure I paid £409 delivered , it was an offer I couldn't afford to miss as I needed a back up at the time for my D200 at weddings (I could have resold it S/H for £100 more at the time)

I got mine for £445 at Jacobs in the sale and was offered £500 over a year later for it....I have seen them go for over £600 on ebay due to the high demand....I also see a lot of posts around the net form people wanting the S3 Pro too...But there very hard to come by and owner's just wont part with them.....if theres ever going to be a collectible digital camera in the future the S3 will be the one and it would be nice to no just how many people own them....I love mine

I've got one! Bought it from Ffrodes for £250! Its in wonderful condition, I'm very happy with it I love the "velvia" setting, yes its slow really REALLY slow but I don't mind that. my only bug bear is it came with the Original batteries which can only last a few hours.

I'm hoping to go to maplin and replace them because if that is the normal life exspetacy of the batteries I'm going to have to get used to walking around with pockets filled with Double As!

Sounds like you got a good buy Stuart....I got the 2500ma ones from maplins for mine there on offer * for £9.99 and got a used battery holdder as a spare of ebay to save fiddling around with batterys when I am out
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=46414
Have you checked the firmware version to make sure its running up to date

Cheers. I've just checked and its running 2.12. I don't think I have a mains adaptor so I will update to 2.18 when I've bought some more dependable batteries.

I meant to ask you have you tried using the cameras discharge function...sometimes batteries magically come back to life as being discharged

What is the Fuji S2 like? (I'm a poor student and I'm getting desperate for a second body!) :D

Cheer Stuart

The imiging is good but its the slowest camera I have ever used....The reason I parted with mine was the horrid battery setup.....Got myself an S3 pro in the end after many months looking around for one theres no many around due to therm being very expensive price tags when compared to the Nikon and Canon cameras at the time (£1600) Its a great camera when used with XD cards and the latest firmware

Cheers for the advice I will discharge the batterys tonight. I don't know an XD card. I notice in the manual it can only take upto 512mb from an XD card. Can you even buy them any more!

Stuart

Theres an S3 for sale on eBay at the moment, I've lobbed a cheeky bid for a giggle but we will see if I get it or not (not actually sure I want it or not.)

Nick.

ps:so maybe someone else would like to outbid me...?

I got fed up of the ISO performance on the D200, so bought a S5 Pro off here. It was absolutely mint and not many actuations.

It's just wonderful for portrait photography. I still manage to shoot Rugby matches occasionally, though I have to be a bit more careful with my shots as when the buffers full it can take awhile to get going again. Still, I think that makes my photos better somehow than relying on high speed.

Has anybody here used the live view on the S3 & S5pro >>>>I find it handy at times when doing macro shots.....I wonder why they never put it on the Nikon D200

hi Stuart ..did you manage to update the firmware and get some new batteries ?

I agree pal the S5pro is much better than the D200 especially at high ISO levels

As there are many threads regarding advice for specific camera models I thought I would give this a bit of a bump for S5 owners and also because of this thread.

I don't use mine enough and would like to hear any tips and advice.

I've had an S5 for a while. Bought it of these forums.
Dont mind the speed of it, not looking to shoot sports with it.
Just love how it renders colour.

Out of the camera jpg with a very very small amount of PP.

Still got mine and still use it.

I've come late to this party but I must say I'm liking my S5 Pro very much. The soc jpegs are remarkable. I must be somewhat perverse but after a camera journey that went like this: 5D to 5D2 to D300s to 5D2 to S5 Pro, I find I'm enjoying the S5 Pro the most. I suspect there will be a D400 or D800 in my future somewhere but for now the S5 Pro + Zeiss 50mm F1.4 combo is very satisfying.

Slow? I would call it deliberate, makes you think a bit more about the photos you take!

I took 3 decent shots of Worthing fishing boats and enlarged them to A2 size without difficulty, still a great camera, really dont see the need for more MP although they are surely on the way with the next batch of Nikons......

I am now going back to the s5 as I'm really not that impressed with the colours or dynamic range of my D300s. s5 may be slow for some I would rather say it's deliberate. reminds me of my old film canon A1!

:olympus: PENTAX :nikon: MINOLTA :canon: FUJI & most things photographic!

Yes there is a lot more in it now!
Nikon D3,D700,D300 x2,D100 x2,D50.
gone are the 2 D80s & D70,
Space now filled with D1,D1H,D1x,D2H,D2HS,D2X.
And all 8 Fuji Dslrs still command Space on the shelf.

And I think it far better that we don't go onto my Film camera Collection

I still have two S3pro bodies.:)

Got 2 S5's and an S3, in all the cameras I've owned the S5 has been the one I enjoyed the most, bought the first one after having a D200, later bought the D300 but preferred the S5 (wife was happy about this), bought the D300S and the same happened, it only became my second body when we bought a couple of D700's, other cameras have come along since (D3, D3X, D800, D800E and a fuji X system) but I still keep an S5 close to hand and often consider returning to use it as a main camera :)

Thanks Barry aka Knighthawk for the tip on XD cards for S3pro :)
I took your advise and purchased some XD cards off eBay and sure enough they do appear to be quicker than the CF card option :)
