Hi Lisa,

You've not given much of a clue as to what is actually happening, if anything. There's not a lot you can do wrong on the S9600 (other than not have the flash unit up of course!). The only thing I can think of is that the external flash option is set to 'on' in the menu.

Steve.

yeah i checked the external flash option and its set to off.

when in auto mode in very dim light, it wont flash. and when you press the flash button on the top of the camera no menu comes up. (as described in the manual)

tried in all modes to get the flash to come on. the green sensor light comes on like its going to take a flash picture but no flash!

you can set the flash on various modes but even that doesn't make any difference... personally i think i have bought a dodgy refurb camera!!!

have been in contact with the supplier and they're going to call me tomorrow to see if im doing anything wrong... but just wanted to know if anyone had any idea's on the matter!

Lisa, check you haven't got one of the macro functions switched in (the button below the AF selector - flower showing in the screen) if one of these are active the flash menu won't come up.

Steve.

the macro settings are defo off. no yellow flower on the screen.

Did you give it time to charge before pressing the shutter button?

To change the flash mode did you hold down the the flash button while turning the command dial?

Are batteries low?

The flash should work automatically when opened except in N or landscape mode, if it doesn't and you've checked the batteries then its possibly duff ( technical term ;))

:)

Sounds like you may have a bad one I'm afraid Lisa. Pity you hadn't mentioned you wanted a S9600 as I have a new one for sale (well just under a month old) and it's perfect.

yeah i've tried all that. batteries are fine (they're new but have recharged them about 4 times now coz i put them in kids toys to discharge quickly so they recharge at full capasity). but when holding down the flash button and turning the command dial... no menu comes up at all...
so yes to use the technical term i think i have a duff camera... but the supplier said he will send out another as soon as he has this one picked up. so at least i haven't got any postage charges to get it sorted.

Need to get all the practise in i can because im doing a friends wedding in december, they couldn't afford a professional photographer so they asked me. just need me CHUFFING CAMERA TO WORK lmao!!!

Forgive me if you have done this I'm probably teaching grandma to suck eggs. (figure of speech,:coat: )

The flash menu only comes on if the unit is up, and then only stays on screen whilst it's being pressed.

I very rarely use the flash, prefer using slower shutter speeds and a tripod.

yup i've made sure the light unit is up.

dont worry im not offended... like i said it may have been something simple i've missed. but by the sounds of it if everyone else is scratching their heads then its looking like a technical fault... i dont feel blond any more hehehehehe!
