I have a Fuji Finepix S1600 that I bought my husband for his birthday several months ago and when I quizzed him why he didn't use it he said because it was broken!!!

Basically it turns on fine and it'll take 3 pictures and then the indicator light goes from green to orange and just jams up you can't even turn it off, the only way it'll turn off is to open the battery compartment which I don't like doing.

I've also used 3 different memory cards in them that I know work because I use them in other cameras. So when I go to view my 3 pictures it comes up with a read error message!!

I'm at a loss and would really appreciate some professional help.

contact the shop you bought it from and send it in as it will be under warranty if its only a few months old.

It is still under warranty - I was hoping it was going to be something I was doing and avoid having to send it back but I think I might have too.

What batteries are you using and have you tried a fresh set or a different type?

I use rechargeable batteries - 1.2v 2100mAh Ni-Mh AAx4 - Do you think I should be using alternative batteries?

Doubt it, I have a S1600 and it runs fine on NiMh's (2400mAh energizer and 2700mAh fujis)

Have you tried a different SD card? A corrupt format can lock up the camera like that...

I've got 3 memory cards and it does the same on all of them. They work fine in other camera's I've got. I've got a number for a Fuji helpline today (which will no doubt cost me a fortune) I'll ring them and see what they say.

No. As Nicola says, those should be fine. Just trying to eliminate the various possibilities.
