Fuji - decision!

Many Fuji owners on here - your advice please, which of these two Fuji cameras would you choose (one is new other is used)

NEW - Fuji X-T10 with 18-55mm 2.8-4 RLM OIS lens £635 after cash back

or

USED - Fuji X100S fixed lens £509

For use as general walkabout camera/lens
 
They're not really comparable. And if it's about what I'd buy, then I wouldn't choose either of them - I like my X-E2 to much. And if but a refurb rather than used or new.
 
X-T10 for me. While the X100 series are lovely and produce fabulous images, the restriction of a fixed lens isn't for me. I know you can get supplementary lenses for them to expand the range of focal lengths available but they're relatively slow to affix/detach and not cheap. If you go down the used/refurb route, the X-T10 kit will be even better value.
 
I have an X-T10 (from the refurb store) with that lens and absolutely love it - it is so much fun to shoot with, very versatile and small enough that you can basically take it with you anywhere (even with the 18-55 attached it fits in most of my coat pockets!).

Never used an x100 variant, so can't comment there, but certainly wouldn't put you off an X-T10 :)

I actually prefer the X-E2 over the T10 as the controls on the T10 can be a little cramped.

Refurb X-E2 bodies were available for £270 although the supply has dried up and the X-E2S (essentially an identical camera) is around £400 as a refurb when you factor in the discount code (http://shop.fujifilm.co.uk/fujifilm-x-e2s-body-only-refurbished.html). Refurbs come with a Fuji warranty, so my personal view is that a private sale used X-E2 north of £300 is over-priced. I'd be looking for one closer to £270 and trying a haggle to £250.

I found the controls of the XT10 nice TBH, not a million miles away from the XT1. I actually prefer the control dials of the 10 over the 1.
 
Many thanks for replies, I've been studying so many combinations!! to keep the price about £600

Fairly sure it's going to be the X-T10 new, with a 2 year warranty as opposed to used with either no warranty or a 6 month one.

There's a number of places who offer 12m warranty with used. I personally would rather buy used (as long as good excellent condition) and get something better and/or won't lose me anywhere near as much money if/when I sell it on, but obviously YMMV (y)

The XT10 is a very nice little camera though and I doubt you'd be disappointed.
 
If I was you I would buy the xe2 it's a cheaper way of getting hold of the 18-55 as they sell £300 on there own. If you like the xe2 happy days if you don't sell the body and buy a xt10. You'll still got hold of the 18-55 cheaper than buying it separately.

Another XE2 fan. For me the size of the XT cameras defeats the object of using a mirrorless camera in the first place- I may as well just take the DSLR.

My XT1 is considerably smaller and lighter than my D750 and makes a huge difference. I guess it depends which DSLR you are coming from.

The XT-1 is tiny towards my old D800E, and less than half the weight. Have you ever compared them side by side? Significant difference in every way.
 
XT10 was my 2nd body purchase after getting a X pro 1 with 2 lens deal and case.
Instantly fell in love with the XT10 as body is smaller and far more user friendly than the XP1 or XE2 imo.
Saying that i doubt you will be disappointed with any X mount body or the XF or XC len's that are available in fact my most used is the XA2 with a cracking XC 16-50mm kit lens :):fuji:

Hi M8 . How do you find xa2 without VF,any issues,im looking at the xa3 as i prefer the bayer sensor in the xa series ,why i love x100, but with XA added i can gas over lenses lol

Hi like you i prefer the bayer sensor hence its my most used Fuji body :)
I have fitted a fold out shades/ screen protectors on the back of one of my XM1 bodies that certainly helps in extreme bright light :)
But it also has s monitor sunlight mode on screen set up which boosts the screen brightness if needed.:fuji:
I haven't fitted a screen shade to the XA2 as the screen flips up and over its more articulated and i haven't found a need as of yet to fit one!

You must have big coat pockets is all I can say, the 18-55m is not a small lens. I can just about fit my X-E2 and 18mm or 27mm in my coat pocket.

Personally I would go for the XT-10, over the fixed lens body as I would find it too restrictive. Actually I wouldn't, I'd look for a minty X-E2, of which there is one in classifieds as we speak, much prefer the form factor to the more DSLR style XT's
 
I can fit the XT-1 with the 27mm in my Jacket pocket, it is a bit bulky, but it's doable. Can't imagine even trying with any other lenses.

Yeah I see the difference- weight more than bulk- but I just want more difference! ;)

Agreed. My X-T10 is way smaller than my D7100 was, never mind something like a D750/D800!

An X-T10 or X-E2 (s or non-s) with the 18-55mm and you're winning imo.
 
I moved from a D800E which mostly had a 35mm 1.4 attached, to the XT-1 with mostly the 27mm 2.8 'pancake' attached, and I can tell you, the difference is massive. When I reach for the cam now I don't have to brace myself for the weight, I can pick this combination up with thumb and finger. I find the kids are a lot more relaxed when I'm taking casual shots about the house too, where they used to act up a lot to the bigger set up.
 
I have an X-E1 from when I first started looking at Fuji, I kept it for a smaller body to take out. However with the 18-55 on it, there isn't a massive difference in taking the X-T1 so that's what I always do. I keep meaning to pick up something like the 27mm to stick on the X-E1 and stick that in my work bag when I'm out and about. Haven't got round to that yet though.

As others have said, it depends what you like and what you'll use it for. I've never used any other Fuji camera, but I love my X-T10 and find the 18-55 an extremely useful lens that I use for 90% of the shots I take, despite owning more than a few vintage primes. I personally think it handles better with the addition of an L-bracket, but YMMV. I take mainly landscapes and cityscapes, some street photography, the odd portrait. I find it works well for all of these purposes. Occasionally the AF will grab the wrong thing, but coming from my (very) old DSLR where half the time the AF would refuse to lock at all, it seems like a miracle of modern tech :-). And I love the swing-out screen too!

Out of curiosity, which L bracket are you using Dave?
 
I think it depends more on whether you want or like the restriction of an X100 series camera ;)

I think I could manage most things on it but I went for an X-E2 and 23/1.4 and 56/1.2 which virtually gives me my Sony A7 field of view with the 35/40mm and 85mm (manual) lenses.

I have settled in well with the X-E2 in the little I have used it and the only downside really is if you are a pixel peeper!! I also prefer the look of the X-E and X-Pro series and I think the X-T have more of a DSLR look.

Looks decent and having held a gripped Xpro2 I do wonder if a grip onto the C-T10 would help me.

Don't suppose you have a pic of the bracket fitted? (Apologies to the OP for going off topic)

I don't think it's completely off topic. And it may be useful to people who find this thread later. I couldn't be bothered to fire up any of my "retired" cameras, so here's a quick phone pic - hope it helps.

The bracket is very solid - I think I've tightened the screw once in a year of ownership. Most of the time I forget that it's not part of the camera!

Much appreciated, Dave. I do like it and certainly think it'd help with how easy it is to handle.

Only thing for me is that the grip part looks a bit cheap and plasticky. Should be irrelevant I know but what can I say, aesthetics are a thing for me [emoji1]

It's actually metal painted a satin black and probably looks better than my picture would suggest. If you have a black body I think it's a reasonable match to the metal parts of that. If you have one of the other colours, not so much :-)

Ahh. I just assumed they were all plastic to be honest. As you say, probably much closer match in the flesh so to speak.

I don't think Fuji did an oem grip for the T10, did they?

Don't know what it costs, but my main objection to it would be that it's not a L bracket as such, i.e. it lacks the capability for Arca-Swiss mounting in portrait orientation.

I see what you mean. Grip extension only really. I don't have much use for an arca Swiss plate right now, but there is a possibility that the cost alone could be prohibitive vs a third party option.
