Fuji Dave

Thanks again folks, just got my walking stick delivered as thought I would buy one, the hospital have given me a small zimmer frame to help move round the flat but it's still a bit to big, had a call yesterday off a rehab lot who have said they will call again next week to have a home appointment to go through some things about getting over a heart attack. Then in about 5 weeks time I should be ok to start the rehab up which should be good as I know what they do as did one for my COPD years ago, the cough from the flu is starting to go at last but my body just aches like a tank went over me. Will check in again soon.

Hi Dave
just make sure you take it easy and follow orders. Very best wishes for the future….. there will be one.
Gerry

Well the last few days have been pretty good as managed to walk down a few stairs using my walking stick, can still get a bit breathless but that's my COPD so looking forward to starting the rehab in a few more weeks. Plus as this has really changed my outlook on a lot of things I will be getting rid of my XT5 and a couple of lenses as going very light weight now so back to the great little OM-DE-M5 III and maybe two very light lenses.

Good to hear you may be on the mend Dave, not so good to hear having to cut down your gear due to it. Although on the bright side we often have more kit than we actually need and cutting down can often actually improve our craft.

Thanks Pete like I said in the Olympus thread, I did really like the OMD M5 III as I called it and missed it so much so that I nearly got one about a month ago and now this has happened I will be getting another one in a few weeks.

The road is not the journey........as complete a recovery as possible might take longer than you anticipate but you are recovering and as the old phrase goes "every day in every way you will be getting better and better...."

More power to your elbow and just do as the doctor(s), physiotherapists & others tell you to....plus of course your OH (da boss ;) )

Only just catching up on all this. So sorry to hear the news Dave, but good to hear you're on the mend.

Well one Bath Lift delivered and put in plus a recliner for the bed and some very cool and comfy cushions that are great, he has to come back out though as the side walls are plaster board so they need to redo those on another day for the hand rails.

You can get a walking stick with built in monopod...... ;)

Totally over the moon here right now, as for the first time since being back home I just managed to walk up down and back up the stairs in our block here. Nice and slow too, feel so happy now but will still take my time.

Well done. Its steps (sorry) like this that are such a boost for morale and confidence. Don't be surprised if another day you can't manage it but you will again and continue to progress.

Thank you for the nice words, I have got in my head that some days will be good and some will not be so good.

Never Hurry a Murray! Must be frustrating as hell, but sounds like you've got a lot of determination. :)

Yes very frustrating indeed but I can't rush at all, still managing to slowly walk down and back up the stairs here every morning which is great but any other exercise really hurts my chest so it's only the stairs for now.

Don't know how I missed all this. But glad to hear that You are making good progress.

Walked down and back up all the stairs this morning and did not struggle at all even though I felt as if I. could of done it quicker I did not, just finished my ten minute indoor exercisers now and feel ok and not breathless. I have found out that from now on I am NOT allowed to drink any alcohol at all because of my meds, and one of them is morphine or as it's called oramorph so from now on once I do get out and about it will be Becks Blue for me.

I will Gav as I don't want to ruin it at all so nice and slow for me, hope to get a call next week about my cardio rehab which will be great.
Recovery from anything significant can be a slow journey but I surmise that once your cardio rehab starts..........then you will be under the cosh  :bat::woot::)

Well done, mate. Keep it up (y)

You’re getting there. Better slow forwards than quick backwards. Oh, and Becks Blue is quite respectable!

Well I think my heart must be getting stronger, as I thought I'd do a bit of a light move about of things. So took my inhalers then cracked on, now I'm sitting down again I think OMG thank christ my heart is stronger, so won't push it like that again.

Yesterday phoned the hospital Cardio Rehab as I was going to be sent miles from our place, hospital said sorry as a mix up had happened. As all the staff are either on leave or very busy they said I can start to go out but have to be with someone as my rehab is not going to start for about 5 weeks yet. As my wife is off work I might try and pop out with her as not allowed out on my own yet even though I can and am walking around the flat as normal now.

You'll get stronger day by day Dave, take it steady. ;)

It does take time dave ,I’m 3 years down the line after heart failure , but I still get hesitant about pushing things to far to fast . Have they issued you with a GTN spray ?

Hi Jeff yes I have a GTN spray now and every time I walk round the flat it's in my hand, I spoke to one of the cardio doctors the other day and he told me not to rush even if I am doing well in the flat. As he put it, I might think right I'm fine to go back out and then bang something goes wrong as he said even though I had a heart attack having the flu so bad has really done a number on my lungs hence why they did not do a stent right off. Plus he told me that when I do go out to make sure I have covering my mouth and I told him I have some masks, because just breathing in cold air is painful, just before we hung up he said don't rush and take my time as it is going to be a long journey.

Just had a phone call from the cardio rehab team, they are sorry but it will be about 4 weeks but they have put me down for it when it starts. Because we live on quite a hill here she said only walk out to the front and sit on the bench we have outside, she said I might manage to walk down ok but walking back up will be to much of a strain she thinks and just stick to that and doing my resistance band exercisers but don't push it.

Know the feeling well dave , it does take time to get over lots of time . Just go at your own pace and don’t push it .you will know when you have so just stop a.s.a.p and rest

It's just so frustrating at not being able to get out with a camera as you will know, twice a day now I'm walking down the stairs a quick rest then back up.
