I currently have a Fuji 35mm f2 but have been considering a used Fuji 35mm f1.4.
I recently got a Fuji 16mm f1.4 and love it and I have heard good things about the 35mm f1.4, even though it doesn't have weather sealing.
I've discounted the 33mm f1.4 mainly due to size and weight (and price) but is the 35mm f1.4 all it's reported to be?
My main genre is 'street' and it would be used on my X-Pro2's.

The first generation Fuji glass has quite different rendering to the Fujicron (F2) lenses, it is also quite a bit slower to focus in AF modes.

If you need F1.4 or want a different image rendering then go for it, if AF speed and a more clinical image are what you require stick with the 35mm F2.

IME wide open you can get quite significant colour aberration with the 35mm F1.4 (it was very noticeable on race car roundels for me) it can be corrected in post, but is something to be aware of if you have hard black/white edges in your street images (I tested a 33mm F1.4 at WEX and that still had significant CA (not as bad as the 35mm F1.4) but still there with similar type images

It's optically better than the F2 and an excellent lens, but not as fast to focus.

It’s a fantastic lens, I loved mine and still miss it. I only sold it because I needed the cash, but I *will* be getting another one at some point. The AF is definitely slower and noisier than some other lenses (my Viltrox 35mm Air for instance), but it’s not a dealbreaker.

Thanks, food for thought. :)

I’m personally a fan of the 35mm f2. It’s smaller, lighter, weather resistant, quicker to focus and quieter to focus. Although, I appreciate some people may prefer the rendering of the 35mm f1.4.
I’ve also got a Brightin Star 35mm f0.95 for ultra shallow depth of field producing some ethereal images. Although, the CA wide open is pretty awful, but a still a very decent cheap lens alternative to the xf 35mm f1.4 if you’ve already got the f2.

Thank you. :)

Simply fabulous glass, I stupidly sold mine a few years ago…..worst decision ever, but I’m going to purchase another one asap.

It renders beautifully, exquisite glass.
Highly recommended.

Thanks Peter :)

I have mixed feelings about the 35mm f/1.4. Yes - it can render nicely. It's (IMO) quite light. It's a nice lens.

But it is slow to focus. I would say that the 16mm f/1.4 feels a good bit quicker.

If you use the 35mm as your main working focal length then I would suggest that if you do try the 35mm f/1.4 then hang on to the 35 mm f/2 until you know for sure that you prefer the f/1.4 'character' as the chances are you'll find it a step back from the 35mm f/2 in terms of AF performance.

Thanks, I plan on keeping the f2 for its weather sealing. :)

Funnily enough I was about to advertise my one.
It’s now in the classifieds

Might be worth removing the WR from the title. It’s one of the slight disadvantages of the 35mm 1.4 that it doesn’t have weather sealing. Personally though, I always loved the images from the 1.4.

Thanks, school boy error

I haven’t tried the f2. However the 1.4 was all I kept of my entire Fuji setup. With the plan of returning one day and that being the main lens. I love it. As others have said. No weather proofing and AF isn’t as fast as other lenses I have had. The quality was superb though.
