Well, it appears to actually exist now (York Camera Mart are advertising it as "In Stock") so has anyone got one yet? Had a proper play? Even a crafty fondle behind the stock cupboard?!

Apparently £1399 here in the UK so not too much more expensive than the Nikkor 200-500 and will be closer to the Sigron 150-600 in terms of comparative focal lengths (on an FF Nikon).

Have handled one indoors attached to a X-Pro2, not much heavier than the 50-140, but very long when fully extended.
Focusing speed was good and the limiter worked well, I found the zoom ring a bit stiff (probably loosen with use) and it took a lot of turning to get it out to 400mm

I have one on pre-order with the 1.4 teleconverter. I spoke to WEX earlier today and they have confirmed that the lens on its own is available now but the combo is still on pre-order as they come in one box together.

The lens + converter deal looks good. Looking forward to some real world, first hand reviews, ideally with an XT1 behind them.

I have one. It's about the same size (length/diameter) as the Canon 100-400 and the Nikon 80-400, so quite big. It's a bit lighter though. Build quality is about what you'd expect. I haven't used it in anger yet though.

I can't get my head around how the 1.4x TC will affect AF. From what I've read it might be an issue on bodies such use contrast detection (eg X-Pro1) but not on bodies that use phase detection (eg X-T1, X-Pro2). But unless I've been looking in the wrong place, Fuji aren't very forthcoming on this subject. Maybe I just need to experiment....

b****r! I think I've missed your special offer for cheaper hire! Do you have the telecon as well?

Double b****r!!! Any more sales on the way? :D

BTW, I could check on the combination's suitability for use on the X-Pro1 and the X-T1 for you... :P

Is the lens + tc out yet? According to WEX they are still on pre order.

At a guess, Stewart's had the TC in stock for a little while but has just had the lens itself delivered. As separate entities, both are available (I think) but as a boxed pair, not yet.

I did ask WEX if they can send them separately but they said as they come in one box. I m just not sure why the delay when both items are available separately

Spot on!

Fuji are probably importing the combo as kits so can offer the pair a bit cheaper in one box. Buying in 2 separate boxes would cost a couple of hundred quid over the kit price...

I wonder how balanced the lens feels. I'm guessing a gripped X-t1 would be best optIon

Could be. Though the TC is £300, so the kit means you get that at a huuuuuge discount.

I guess so. Though to be honest I don't get this 'balanced' thing at all. Whenever I use a telephoto like a 70-200 or 100-400, my left hand is always taking the weight under the centre of gravity of the lens, so the weight of the camera is pretty irrelevant.

What I think is more important is how far you have to move your left hand from the centre of gravity in order to operate the lens (zoom, manual focus, etc). I'm out of the office today but I'll happily report back on this later if anyone's interested.

Well when using the likes of the Tamron 150-600 on a d810 and then putting the lens on the d5500, it felt a lot more comfortable to me on the d810.
This Fuji lens REALLY appeals to me as there is no native option on the Sony mirrorless system.

I'd be interested to find out how it compares to the Tamron 150-600 which is about half the price.

Well ... like I said, I really don't understand this 'balance' business. I tried the lens on an X-Pro1, and the camera feels like a little toy compared to the DSLRs I usually use, but the lens balanced fine because I had my left hand in the right place. The zoom ring falls naturally to hand when you support the lens with your left hand, but the manual focus ring is so far forward as to be practically unusable without adjusting your grip significantly. I guess this lens isn't really meant to be focussed manually.

Just need Fuji to start a new cashback offer! Then again, the lens + telecon kit is a good saving on the separate price anyway. I feel a visit to LCE coming on to preorder the kit...

How much is the teleconverter on its own?

£329 (ish)

In the past Fuji haven't offered any cashbacks on anything released in the last few months, so I'd be surprised if there are any cashback deals on 100-400, TC, X-Pro2, X70, etc (especially since the 100-400+TC box when it eventually arrives offers a £200 saving)

We might see some trade in your DSLR against an X-Pro2 type incentives though

Yup, on its own, it's around £330 but tacked onto the 100-400 it's only £100 extra.

Since I was in town this afternoon, it would have been rude not to slide into LCE and place my pre-order. At least they didn't want any sort of deposit, unlike a certain well know high street chain who went pop a few years back who wanted a deposit to pre-order a Nikon P900 - refundable if I didn't buy (and they don't go pop again in the meantime...)

Get it bought.
You're just like a woman umming and ahing before buying what she first saw:p

When you've got it it will need running in.
I've just set up a new company to test drive all new equipment before purchaser gets their hands on it. Cheap rates, in fact to you sir I'll do the service gratis.

Now what dates should we pencil in?

Have already been interested in the Fuji system and this lens could be the icing on the cake.

Well, LCE as a group only have 4 of the lenses only box so I could be waiting a while!

Sorry, Frank, I do my own running in and servicing.

Wondering if the telecon works with the 50-230 and/or the 55-200 for a lighter weight option. Anyone know?

I saw something on the Fuji forum that seems to indicate that the TC will only work with the 100.400.

However part of my running in service will include a full check of compatability across the range!

Take a look at a picture of the teleconverter; the sticky out bit goes into the lens body. Only the above mentioned zooms plus the impending 120mm macro are compatible. You'd assume any new long fast lenses will be as well but most of them physically can't handle it. It's the price you pay for shorter wide primes.

Thanks, Frod, that makes sense! There's a similar compatibility problem with Nikkor telecons and some lenses, although less extreme than the Fuji looks!

I had a brief hands on with the 100-400 today, and i have to say that i am seriously impressed -)

Me too!

It's here! And has been for a little while now....

Stewart, being a cheapskate, I've gone for the lens + telecon kit at a significant saving. Waiting for my local LCE to get one in for me.

Just had the call to say that the 100-400 + telecon kit is now in stock at LCE so will pop down into town tomorrow morning - knackered after a walk this morning!

I am surprised I didn't get the call from WEX. Normally they call me on the day. Anyway, just ordered the combination via their website and should be with me by Sunday :)

Would have mine already but LCE weren't open when I went into town earlier. Why can't shops be open when I want them to be? ;)
