A group called Transaction 2007 is planning on "legal protest action" this Wednesday.

You might remember the fuel protest of 2000 which initially gathered strong support from motorists. However, that support quickly turned when many motorists were prevented from filling up because of lorry blockades.

PetrolPrices.com expressed to the organisers that they may find public support for another fuel protest if it was planned properly to be legal and orderly. So far, the Transaction 2007 organisers has been unwilling to confirm to us specifically what action they have planned for this week. When we pressed the groups' spokesman, Chris Hunter, he said "This will be a numbers game levied against legislation. I can comment no further."

With fuel breaking well beyond the £1 barrier PetrolPrices.com has had a huge rise in the number of emails from concerned motorists. People were especially angry following the last fuel duty hike, imposed by the Government in October. Despite being made aware of the huge resistance from motorists, the Government ploughed ahead with a fuel duty hike and left the public frustrated and angry. Over 80,000 people had voted against the tax hike on our blog post.

The protests of 2000 achieved some success in that the fuel duty escalator was frozen. However, it has now resumed and with the rising price of oil motorists are becoming increasingly concerned with VAT on fuel. VAT rises in line with the price of the fuel rather than staying fixed like the duty element of the pump price.

Fill your cars up :bang:

Are they only protesting on high prices like the 2000 one?

Not really worth protesting over, It might stop people over using their cars.

Guvmint's got to pay for the war(s) somehow!

They got my support, i got a round trip of 50miles every day for work and it p*sses me off watching the petrol prices go up every week, and i believe the the gov is adding a further 2p duty early next year.

The petrol price here has gone up 10p a litre in the last 9-10 weeks. B*stards

I would love there to be revolt. Alas though it's a rather small (internet only) storm in a tea cup, and I wouldn't rush to the pumps in fear.

During the last fuel protests I was working at a petrol station and had the 'pleasure' of watching a man die on the forecourt as a result of your revolt so please keep your childish blockades in your head.

If you believe the people of Great Brittain real want this changed then form a sigle policy political party like ukip and win yourself a general election.

What do you mean 'pleasure' what difference does an apostrophe either side of it make.
You might want to edit your post, then I will edit mine.

I hear ya'.

I used to walk to work, at the end of my street. Then "Honest Tony's Think Tank" decided that Britain didn't need industry any more and that we could all work in a call centre. So for most of the last decade I've been taxed at 80% on the £3000 a year it costs me to get to work.

Can't imagine the governments motivation for precipitating this change in our lifestyles. can you?

To be fair I don't think that was Uncle Tony's idea m8, the tories before that had pretty much screwed up british industry, and the labour government before them too...

Perhaps the goverment should give tax breaks on fuel for 'business mileage' (lets say you do a round trip of 50miles a day, so you get a tax break on that) but up the tax for 'pleasure' miles?

People have to work to pay taxes after all.

On a serious note does anybody have any idea what form this protest is likely to take, cannot tell much from transaction 2007 web site?

Blockade the whole bloody lot I say!

Successive governments have made it a necessity to own a car in this country thanks to out of town shopping centres, absolutely dire public transport and a housing market meaning communiting is the only real option.

And now that Gordy has to pay the bills for Tony's little jaunt in the middle east, it's the car driver that's footing the bill.

I honestly don't think the government would give two hoots how big the protests will be. They know perfectly well people have no choice about buying fuel, it's like tobacco and booze - a big fat cash cow and they know it. Of course it's a lot easier to put up the tax on things like fags and than income tax because they can hide behind the we're trying to discourage people from smoking banner.

As far as I can tell the entire system of government is beyond economical repair, time to throw it away and start again

Lets face it, oil is a finite commodity its running out, we kill people for it, its gonna go up in price a lot more, we gotta get used to it, im thinking of buying a horse and cart, anybody else have any ideas as to how they are gonna move around when it runs out??
Si.

Nobody is denying that fossil fuels are a finite resource, however, does that justify the 70% tax percentage of what we pay for our fuel? And please don't tell me that money goes on alternative fuel research

Its 80% when you add the VAT. I dont agree with it, who does? But if the Govenment backs down on this they will only collect some place else, we cant win.
The govenrment are allready looking into mass production of biofules, which will use up lots of land so your carrots and onions will shoot up in price as there will be no space to grow em. Bah!!

Protesters Plan Oil Refinery Blockade

Fuel protesters are planning to blockade oil refineries from next Saturday, Sky News has learnt.

Protests took place in 2005An official protest website says the action will take place from 10am.

Transaction2007 said they had decided to release details of the protests earlier than planned in order to allow "the motorist and public to better prepare themselves for the coming action".

It said members of the group had agreed the date and time to to enable those who would normally be working during the week to attend.

And it warned that the action would take place "at a refinery or storage depot somewhere near you".

Protests against the price of fuel took place two years ago in 2005, causing major disruption at petrol stations and fuel depots.

The threatened action comes in the face of petrol prices rising above £1 a litre in recent weeks.

Oil prices last month surged towards $100 a barrel on fresh supply fears and concerns over the weakness of the US dollar.

The price spike followed refining problems and predictions of slower than expected growth in the US next year.

Yup, I guess at the end of the day they've got a war to pay for, so the money has to come from somewhere!

As for biofuels, this is what makes me laugh about just how 2 faced thay are. If you produce your own biofuel (to run in your diesel car) you STILL have to pay duty to HMC&E. So much for it being used to deter car use and thus reduce CO2 output. Oh and it's also liable for VAT!

If the protests go ahead, it means I get to use the pumps with no queues like last time :D I'm considered an 'essential car user' so I got a special pass last time - it was great - no queues at all!

I agree that fuel prices are silly at the minute, but I don't honestly think any amount of protesting will change the Governments stance on duty. They'll just tax you on something else.

if this goes on long enough it means I won't be able to do the family visits at christmas! pefect!!!!

What is the average fuel prices over there at the moment anyway?

Over here in N.Ireland is seems to move at different rates as a lot of people go across the border and buys fuel from the republic as there is less tax on it. I think at the moment it works out about 95p/litre compared to the 1.15 it goes for in NI.

I think we should all turn to LPG!! its a lot cheaper!!

Its a shame that people got hurt during the last blokade, but maybe he should've stayed in his car??

And i think a lot of people would have used public transport if it was a well run as it should be!! Bus drivers are the WORST drivers iv seen ever!! (The new ones that is) im an EX bus driver and i can see the standards have slipped!! i know they have a stupid amount of time for each rounder but they still dont have to race.. Its just not safe either!! the busses in my area are full of t*ssers and hoodies!! maybe if they took off the kid gloves and the nicely nicely way the teachers and police have to work then there may just be enough respect for each other built up in the next 50 years or so to make things easier.. its a nanny state..

I say bring back conscription!!!!!! :bat: :thumbs::thumbs:

>>>I think we should all turn to LPG!! its a lot cheaper!!<<<
no prizes for guessing what would happen if we all did that!!

I remember when diesel was a lot cheaper than petrol.......guess the rest!!.

It's about £1.03 per litre for unleaded here, although a garage up the road from me now has it for £0.99 per litre :woot:

Ah yes, but Labour promised not to put up the duty on it!! they PRoMISED!! they wouldnt go back on thier word... would they?? i bet they would!!i dont trust ANY politision!! thier all as bad as each other..

My car is diesel and that is now 108.9 up the road!! :bang:

There is a local garage here does it a lot cheaper than the rest at £1.04 so we always top up there if we cant make the trip down across the border, Since its only about 20miles to the border is not to bad.

The gap in the fuel prices has been falling a lot in the last year, the currency exchange rate used to save you a lot more money but its not that much of a saving any more.

Lets face it, oil is a finite commodity
It is, but not nearly as finite as some would have you believe. I've worked in the oil industry and have friends who still do, including Consultant Geologists who get paid good money to identify new fields. There are vast amount of untapped reserves. Lack of oil is not the immediate threat to our supply.

anybody else have any ideas as to how they are gonna move around when it runs out??
Si.

Fortunately the infernal combustion engine, whilst highly sophisticated these days, still relies on some pretty primative principles. CI engines will run happily on veggie oil as we all know. Spark ignition engines will run on alchohol.
I won't be taking shanks's pony any time soon.

The govenrment are allready looking into mass production of biofules, which will use up lots of land so your carrots and onions will shoot up in price as there will be no space to grow em. Bah!!

They could always use the 25% of farm land which the EU has designated as set aside, to stop farmers growing too many of the crops that they pay heavy subsidies for. Who knows, they might even make the crop profitable and then we wouldn't have to cough up the £10Bn NET that we currently pay to stop French farmers burning our sheep.

Of course the only really intensive crop being grown in the English countryside today is housing estates.

Guvmint's got to pay for the war(s) somehow!

Yeah, but what's the point of having wars to secure oil supplies if the price of fuel keeps rising?

I don't mind the wars, as they're keeping me in gainful employment - it's the cost of fuel that bothers me...

Buy a V8 now before it's too late...

I did hear one farmer saying that the EU were stopping some of the setaside subsidies this year and are encouraging more of the crops for biofuel, so they may be heading in the right general direction.

Well its wednesday and ive trawelled the media to find out about this fuel protest and I can not find anything except that

"The Road Haulage Association feels it necessary to make a number of urgent points concerning the Association and the pressure group calling itself “Transaction 2007”.
The RHA is not “in Association with” the pressure group, although this assertion is made on its website. The expressions used such as “RHA/Transaction 2007 members” are highly misleading, implying a relationship which does not exist.

The RHA has never been involved in negotiations with “Transaction 2007” but has, as a matter of courtesy, held discussions with RHA members who are also part of the pressure group.

The RHA will always support members who wish to protest legally where members have expressed that wish through the RHA regional organisation.

Comments within “Transaction 2007” suggesting that legal and peaceful protests would produce no results and that more direct action should be taken are unacceptable.
"

anyone else heard anything?

You are right it is this sat, the first post said weds, but they wont be a blockade so we can all get to our christnas destinations and meet our families! :bang: :gag:
