Fuel Duty to rise AGAIN

I used to walk my daughter to primary school which was about half a mile away. On the way, we would often see kids being put into cars and then on other occasions, see them getting out when we got to the school. Most of them lived only a quarter of a mile from the school.

Steve.

Don't forget it not just duty on fuel for private cars, it's more duty on all those lorry's transporting goods to the shops

What do buses run on ?
Yes they need fuel so it more duty on public transport so the fares will have to rise, and your local council what do the bin wagons run on, your getting it now aren't you, more council tax to pay for the rise in fuel duty.

It's typical of this stupid government.

They keep raising fuel duty to discourage us from buying 4X4s and larger cars, then they want us the tax paying public to bale out Land Rover and Jaguar when we stop buying their cars.

So what they want you to do is buy a Jaguar car but just don't use it. :bang:

So sooner the dumb ****** that is Gordon Brown is out of power the better.

Oh yes you don't vote for a Prime Minister you vote for a party, but what when the party don't even elect the leader. NOBODY has ever elected Gordon Brown to power.

What was said here!

I just think it's great that it's a Scotsman that running Britain. Get it right up ye!

Because i see a lot of them in my local shop, so the chances are they are very local, and i even know some of them as they are my neighbours.

I don't dispute that there are some lazy people around, but I would suggest (from experience at my own school many years ago, and from my kids schools) that there may be a lot of these cars are not actually from walkable distances away, or the parents are dropping them off on the way to work.

And, to stop people making really short journeys in their private transport, the government would need to increase the taxes on the fuel to the point where it would be unaffordable to most people - these are short journeys we're talking about which probably cost no more than 20-30p total.

You want to get a spell checker as you wrote running when it should have been ruining.

Yep don't they just infuriate you, i made the mistake of going out the other day when the kids were finishing school, it's virtually impossible to drive down the rd because all the lazy ****ing parents can't be bothered to walk there kids a 3rd of a mile, and park and double park there cars outside the school, and just to think when i was at school i walked nearly 3 miles

The justification for all this from the parents point of view is to protect their children, however, all this is motivated by the media publicity over paedophillia, but, (from what I have read) statistics have proven that there are significantly more accidents and deaths involving children outside schools whereas the the risk of your child being abducted is no greater than it was decades ago.

Having said that, if I were a parent with young kids today, I would still collect mine from school.

Am surprised that nobody has yet kicked off about the fact that even though this latest rise was introduced to offset the VAT reduction in December - the VAT reduction gets reversed in December this year - so yet another fuel rise - on top of whatever our erstwhile Chancellor has planned for April 22nd. :bang:

Oh well - maybe next time the general election comes round (probably May next year) folk will remember all this and vote accordingly
