Really chuffed with this; I never expected my image to go on the front page!
The main shot was taken with my 5DIII and a 15mm fisheye - that cavern was really snug with 16 people in it (I estimated max 12 on the reccie) and the spray was horrendous.
Inside page was taken with my trusty X30 which did really well in the challenging conditions.

My local festival has strong ties with nearby caves and the caving community, so we came up with a mad idea to take as many organisers as possible underground and photograph them next to the festival banner.
En-route to the banner shot we took a break where a band played and we enjoyed a tipple of local cider.

This isn't a show-cave!
Getting the banner, instruments, cider, photographic kit and safety gear down there was a major undertaking.
Entrance to the banner chamber is a small hole at the top of the waterfall; it is quite intimidating.
Although we only went a relatively small way into the 9km cave system, it was more than enough for members of the group on their first trip underground.

Next stop the Nationals!!!

The headline right beside the front page photo is a little unfortunate - hopefully the local residents are bright enough not to think that it's a group shot of the "Sneak Thieves"!!!

Hmmm... Cider down a small hole with running water... Hope you took some empty polypins down for "overflow"!!!

Well done Duncan.....I can see why you're understandably chuffed! :-)

Cheers Nod!
Could have been a lot worse headlines next to the piccy - how about "Death by Misadventure" or "Arrests Follow Reckless Behavior"?
You can tell it is Somerset - we had a 9 pint beer keg and it was amazing how many extra cups were needed once people realised it actually contained cider.

The band produced a short video of the trip, which is one of the best I've seen showing just how flippin hard it was to get all the gear (and people) into the cave.

Well worth a watch!

Cheers

Festival's happy with the publicity.
Caving community is happy with some positive reporting about what they get up to.
Three of the first-timers enjoyed themselves enough they went back a week later for an extended trip.
The reporter that tagged along wants to do a feature about Cave Rescue.
Result!
