Thanks very much for that, John - hopefully, I'll get around to building one at which point I'll be able to post the veroboard design I come up with if it works!
BTW, cheap hotshoes and synch sockets can be procured by stripping them out of cameras sourced from charity shops. Probably not a good idea to do this to a Leica or similar but there are plenty of cheapo cameras from which these otherwise hard-to-obtain parts can be robbed with impunity!
