BBC reports on deaths with/from covid 19.
That's the way I would interpret it too.I would read if someone died with Covid that they may have died from something else.
If they died from Covid then it was the primary factor and they may have had something else too, but not necessarily.
But that may be just my take on it.

Nobody ever died of AIDS - it's not fatal. They died with AIDS - the disease depressed their immune system to the point that other common diseases were fatal.
Same thing with the Covid - it's not in itself killing that many people. They are dying of other things.
But yeah, the BBC used to be good at grammar.
I’d like to go on holiday from my wife! Lockdown is getting wearing.I'm going on holiday with my wife....
This was a bugbear of mine when COVID first hit as potentially it could sensationalise a death toll. They were reporting deaths as xxx from COVID but have now moved to XXX deaths where the person had tested positive for COVID.
The former suggests that every death was as of a result of contracting COVID, the latter infers that they died with COVID in their system. Unless every attributed death has had a post mortum the actual number due solely to COVID (suppressed the immune system or severely increased the underlying condition) could be vastly over counted.
How many people have died where COVID was contracted and the person was just a carrier or they were infected close to time of death and the virus had not established and was not in any way a factor in the cause of death? How many people were on their last days with no chance of recovery and then were infected and their death occured days sooner - by days rather than weeks- than expected?
Without this information the total death rate is vague and may not be representative of the true number nor mean it is as lethal as published. Like wise the number of vulnerable that would of passed in the last 3 months anyway from contracting normal flu or such like. Its said that until we get to next year we cant compare deaths overall and see the actual effect COVID has had.
It would be interesting to see if after 12 months COVID was only responsible for the premature passing of people - i.e the number of people passing is the same as the previous 12 months or is there a time bomb waiting in the wings where so many vulnerable people have isolated that there could be a spike not due to COVID later in the year
I want to make it clear that this is purely objective thinking out loud and I in no way want to suggest or trivialise anyone that has passed or lost someone or make it out it is anything less than tragic the number of people that have lost their lives.
These days, when it comes to grammar, it seems a lot of 'journalists/reporters' don't even know the difference between sat and sitting. "I've been sat indoors all day." No you haven't, you've been sitting indoors all day. Basic, primary school level, grammar!the BBC used to be good at grammar.
We are not being told the whole story or whole truth and that’s if they even know ,this goverments reaction to this has been weak and insipid at best .
