Please Help!

I have 6 bowens mono heads, 3 x 500R's and 2 x 500pro's and 1 X Gemini 750+, I love them and theyre great,theyre all less than 2 years old but I have owned them from new.

But.

I have the option of changing it all to Broncolor (Grafit 2 packs and Pulso F4 Heads) (also Used)

I know I can get adapter rings for my softboxes/Bowens Octo150, are there adapters to use my other modifiers, reflectors, beauty dishes, background reflectors etc on the bron heads?

Forget about the money, would you do it?

Thanks!

Yes....I love my Bron gear.

Though, because I'm no longer shooting full time I'm debating selling it and downgrading. If you can justify it and will benefit, then do it :)

Thanks, my understanding is the stuff is pretty much bulletproof, is that your experience?

Bron and Profoto are pretty much industry standard and deserve their reputation in my opinion. If money wasn't a consideration, there would be no question, and no reason for everyone not to be using Broncolor stuff.

I haven't owned my mobil for that long, though I bought it 2nd hand and it's yet to let me down in any way. Admittedly it's overkill for my present shooting schedule.

What do you shoot?

I shoot glamour mainly, this stuff is way overpowered for my needs in a 1400sqft studio, but I can always turn it down!

Have you considered Elinchrom pack and heads? You can get them at bargain bucket prices right now used, classic packs,202/404,chic etc. Tonnes of power and also very well built

I would go for Broncolor, the only reason I stick with Multiblitz is because I really can't justify the entry costs and my aspirations only go as far as Minicoms :'(

Calumet have an overpriced adapter ring that fit Bowens speedrings (140mm diameter?) but Lastolite also do an adapter of similar size - couple on eBay at the moment. If you are using non-Bowens speedrings then they might require the larger 152mm adapters, in which case Lencarta have them.

I wouldn't be changing at all if these hadn't come along. It's not a case of wanting to change, it's probably one of those opportunities that 'just doesn't happen'

I've had a look at the adapters, I don't quite get them, are they just like the s fit rings I have in my soft boxes or are they adapters to allow sfit modifiers onto broncolor heads?

The response was aimed specifically at your 150 octo question.

This Lencarta youtube clip is perhaps the best way of explaining. The Bowens ones may differ but the principle is the same

Id do it without thinking! Used a lot of their stuff and I think it is amazing!

Grafit isn't actually made anymore as it's been replaced with the scoro, Incase you weren't aware ;)

What do you shoot btw? As you might just be able to get away with a verso pack (which you can put a battery on the bottom of to so you can take it on location etc) and I'm pretty sure grafit is mains only as in know the scoro is..

How close are you to London? As peartree have a bron open day next thurs...can go along and have a play with the stuff and I think theres a raffle to win some hire too!

I shoot glamour, the best of that packs that are available to me is the grafit, as I have said its all used. Been really happy with the bowens gear and was wondering if Im just being greedy, 'if it aint broke' but the offer that's available to me is too good to pass up.

Hmmm.....

Swapping tried and tested kit for an obsolete pack and some used heads.

On paper a Bowens -> Bron straight swap is a great deal. But if you run into problems later it could be staggeringly expensive to fix the Brons. For example, if the Grafit fails and is beyond economic repair you'd be looking at about 6 grand for a Scoro. That's vs 350 ish if you break a Bowens head.

Kit is very reliable but it will need servicing at some point and even that could cost more than new kit for your Bowens.

I'd want to know the history of the Brons before swapping.

The Grafit (A2 & A4 RFS) is still shown in Broncolor's 2011 catalogue and is still on sale int he UK - so how old are these units? As with all secondhand purchases it is as well to find out as much 'history' as possible.

yea i saw that too after what i said, maybe they havent been stopped then but i swear the scoro replaced it!

its not a straight swap, its a VERY cheap purchase and then sale of my existing kit. due to a studio closing down.

money spent on light is rarely wasted... especially if it's a bargain, I would.

OK, so I did it!

Now I just have to get to grips it! think I bought too much, is 4 packs and 12 heads too many?

I think so!

Behind The Scenes.
Not so as they can see your lights, they just want to see you sweat as you try to get the shot you envisage, at the same time as you're recording it.
No pressure then.
:naughty:

Plus if you can include external shots to show the rough location and close ups of any security cameras and alarms.....
