Does anyone know the simple way of clearing this problem up? It looks to me that there are no options in the raw software to do this. Cheers

must "have" had. ;)

Depends what you mean by fringing. A pic would have helped. If you mean chromatic aberration, I have seen a good youtube tutorial using elements. Revolves around selecting the colour of the fringed area then desaturating that colour. Maybe have a look at this
