I signed up to FR yeeeears ago, never paid (glad I didn't now :D).
I occasionally check for peoples updates (even though no one bothers now they have Facebook).

And occasionally they send me an email with 'updates'

Now firstly, these always contain 'updates' that aren't true. (23 people have added themselves to your year at school....) No they haven't, no one has, stop lying.

More importantly though is this line :

Why not add yourself to these places?

Errrr, BECAUSE I DIDN'T GO TO THOSE SCHOOLS!

Why do they suggest I add myself to a list of schools that they've randomly plucked from my area?

You should try their Genes Reunited site - they send you out emails saying "we've found a match for one of your relatives", but the "match" will have a completely different name and place of birth - the only thing they'll share is the year of birth

Blimey.. does anyone use Friends Reunited anymore? That was a flash in the pan if I ever did see one.

Nice one Marcel I thought it was just me :D

Yep he gets blamed for most things so why not that as well  :D

FR is complete crap. No one uses it anymore, and the ones that did, created a profile and buggered off :D

The best thing to come out of FR, was an old school mate sending me a message asking me to join FaceBook

They keep suggesting I join Retford High School for Girls.

I'd love to, except...I've never been anywhere near Retford and I'm a 44 yr old bloke.

:annoyed:

LMFAO!

My mother signed my up for FR when I joined the Army 'to keep up with old friends'. nobody I ever went to school with uses it. I, like many others, have found more of my old friends on Facebook than anywhere else!

My biological father got in touch with me in June of last year through FR. Never spoken to him before that, so it's not all bad! Ignoring the fact I'd not logged in for about 3 years thank goodness I had remembered to update my email address

I would say its a dying site. They ALMOST had the winning idea - but they did not really get the social aspect. In steps facebook, and its game over.

Their new sign ups is diminishing - moving to the older/slower generation.

My guess is that it folds/merges pretty soon.

They made it free recently, after trying to charge to send messages. Not sure what they are getting revenue from, advertising maybe, but certainly their angel funders are going to want money soon.
