Evening all!

Just thought id introduce myself, my names Josh and ive just bought my very first DSLR - a nikon d40x :) very impressed with the camera, lovley piece of kit.

To be perfectly honest though I just dont know where to start  (will have a real look at the handbook soon!) when i first got it home I took a few snaps of the family dog and they came out well, then I managed to play around with some light grafitti but thats about it

I have flicked it straight into 'M' as I dont want to get lazy using auto (is this the right move?) finding it quite tricky :( but then it is my first few hours of ownership...

Any n00bie pointers much appreciated :) love the forum will hopfully get some shots over the next few weeks if i ever get to grips with the cam

Welcome along.

If you don't know what a setting does, Google for it and read about it. Once you understand what they all do you'll find photography so much easier!

For over a year I just messed about with the settings until I got the best result. I knew what the ISO did but that was about it... I then put the camera down for a bit and done some reading, and when I next picked it up I was a much better photographer!

cheers for the welcomes :)

and thanks for the advice kryptix! have had a quick look but will definatley look into everything a little more now :)

Welcome Along Enjoy

bit of a set back in the photography department :( unfortunatley after noticing marks coming up in photos i dropped it back to my friend (who i bought the cam from) so he took it to look at and whilst he was trying to sort it out for me the shutter also started jamming :( bad times. so hes kindly taken the cam back (glad i bought from a good friend) so im now considering buying a nikon d40 or sony a200a to replace the d40x... will i be dissapointed going to the d40? (bearing in mind i only took about 10 snaps :p

thanks alot!
