Hello everyone! ​


I've just signed up so thought i'd write an intro message. I'm twenty two and from London. I haven't learned photography yet but it's something I want to get into as if i'm honest i'm at a place in my life where I'm a little lost with no real passions or hobbies, so i'm hoping learning photography skills will help motivate me and maybe help towards giving me a sense of purpose and more confidence in myself. I can't attend group classes at the moment so I'm going to buy a camera and hopefully learn the basics from books and online until I feel ready to take that step to take classes. I bought a dog this year so I really want to take lots of nice shots of him. :D

Welcome to the site Chantelle, it is friendly here and you can pick up some tips.
get a DSLR if you can,second hand is OK.
If you do not fancy a DSLR we have plenty of members that use bridge and compact cameras.
It is a great hobby to have Chantelle,because every image you take is unique to you and a lovely memory to keep.

I'm finding the site very useful and members have been ever so helpful. It's very encouraging. Thanks for the advice. Think i'm going to go ahead and purchase a DSLR.

I am new here aswell, also from London. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on 'Talk Photography', very helpful. I have just bought a Nikon D90 and am learning what the dials and buttons do, Done SLR's years ago but technology moves on. Good luck.

Haha yeah I was a bit overwhelmed at first and there's so many threads to look through! But i'll get to grips with the lingo and basic knowledge eventually.

Yes it's nice these forums exist to talk with other members that know what they're doing and some great examples of work in some of the threads.

I haven't got a camera yet but i'm probably either going to go for the D90 or D3100. Probably going to get one second hand.

Welcome Chantelle! If you want you can have a look at my blog for beginners in photography

Otherwise I would just advice you to start learning the rule of thirds, that's the best base to build upon to.
