I don't know MagicMap well so had a quick look. This looks somewhat similar - http://www.walkingclub.org.uk/ign_france_maps/france.shtml - has loads of detail.

I'll have an explore of that this evening. Many thanks for the link. I have a few good maps of the southern alps, but needed some more info for the northern alps, so hopefully this looks like it will give me all the info I need in planning.
Magicmap is a good resource. I use it a lot at work to plot out potential locations and timeframes, and working it with TPE is a good combo.
