considering getting freesat, whats the menu system like is it as user friendly as sky? are there different systems

also can you record two different channels like sky+

It's got a simular menu to sky, i find it better because the writting is bigger and not a fuzzy as on the Sky box

A Humax box such as here will allow you to record as well as watch something else. You do need a dual feed LNB though. But if you have Sky+ already it should be a simple plug in and off you go.

I have done some research on Humax boxes as I am looking at getting one, the reviews seem to suggest that you get a better signal and picture from them. My parents have one and their picture is superb, 100x better than my Sky. In fact, I found I got a better picture by viewing it without my card in the box.

If you have a sky box the the menu will be the same, if not it will depend on whose box you do get. If you're worried, pop into a TV shop and try them out.

wait, are you telling me i can get freesat with my sky plus box?

just use the olkd sky+ box here for free-to-air channels after cancelling Sky TV. live in flats that share 1 TV aerial and 1 Sky dish. TV/freeview isn't watchable via TV aerial as buses and scooters knock signal out (2 bus stops outside + it is split and boosted to 10 flats) but no issue via dish but limited to 1 feed per flat.

anything other than a box that uses sky dish or to continue using sky box is a no go here.
probably nothing to affect you but always worth thinking of if you are in similar situation

just left freesat myself....

Had the Humax foxsat HDR box, and although the box is fantastic (menu's, epg, everything about it was brilliant)...I just didn't like freesat. No Dave, Fiver, FiveUS, or 4Music (BIG no-no's in our house).

If you're ok with the channel selection, don't think you can beat the humax.

i just read that if i just cancel my sky subscription, they'll try and sel, my a freesat card for £25 but in fact my current card will actually give me the freesat channels right now.

anyone done this?

I cancelled my sky subs some years back but was still able to view the free stuff
Recently purchased a new freesat card from sky, cost me £20
...and now I can view some extra channels, including Motors tv which just recently became free to view

What is the free stuff please and is this still viewed through the Sky box..... I have Sky+ paying £20 for the basic package + National Geographics, so if I cancelled my subs what would I be able to view.
Thanks
Dave

I have around 40+ channels with the freesat card
all the BBC channels,(including the regional variations)BBC3,4
ITV1,2,3.4,CH 4,5,Film4,USA5,Five*
Motors tv,various news and radio channels
A few 'b movie' type channels

The sky box works as a freesat box but you can't record anything

you have to be a sky subscriber to use record and live pause etc. Just the reminders works.

You've got to pay a £10 pm subscription to be able to record if you are using one of their freeview cards.

Looks like they get you all ways.

Thats very interesting as my FIL was thinking of going down the sky route for 12 months and then stoping the subs so he had freesat

Will let him know

Won't record? in which case, buy a freesat box and stuff Sky altogether.

I don't have the sky+ box,just the old standard version but can't it go through a dvd recorder/even a vcr at a push ?
Or is it the 'ease' of the sky+ settings that is needed

its the ease plus the series linking and the dual record mode.

i cancelled my sky today, i pay £43 for my package including sky sports and i realised that sky sports was the only thing i watched that i couldnt get on freesat. i never watch sky one or anything like that so essentially i am paying £43 for sky sports. i told them if they could give me sky sports hd and my entertainment package for £25 i would consider staying, they couldnt so i cancelled.

tomorrow i'll order that humax box, bring on some hd tv
