I've had my website based with Photium for the past 10 years however, as the days of Covid have seriously reduced my income, I am looking to put together a Wordpress site for my predominantly landscape images. (I already have 3 other websites, two for work, with a hosting plan that allows me up to 5 sites so I thought I'd take advantage of that.)

I've got an idea of how I want it to look - fairly clean and minimalist with a Gallery/projects page, about, blog, contact, prints or shop and a home page with a slider option for images.

My problem is there is such a choice of free themes and having spent hours looking at many I am further away from making a decision than when I started! I wondered if anyone here could recommend or suggest some that may fit my needs or that they have used as well as maybe any to definitely avoid. In my travels I shortlisted Neve, Rife, Pixography, Fotographie, Sparkling - all of which I think are customisable.

Any suggestions, advice or help would be gratefully received! :)

Thanks
Lin

Hoping you get some answers @LinG as I've got the same question...

There are plenty of nice looking free themes out there, but the problem with these is you don't always know who has built them. I have tried free themes a few times, but some have resulted in my WordPress site being peanilised, this was because there was hidden code within the themes. The code was usually back links to adult and gambling sites, by the time I had to go through the code, and try and remove the offending code, I found it was much better to just tweak a standard theme that came with WordPress.

It is usually best to work on a standard WordPress theme, that came with the package. Simply make it in to a child theme, (inherits the look of a standard theme) and get it to look the way you want, that way it wont be over written when you upgrade WordPress.
