Two children asleep and an unhappy baby keeping me up :'(

I'm typing one handed (whilst rocking) and it's got me thinking.......

If you could be heartless and self indulgent - what would you do or where would you go (photography wise) if the powers that be gave you a free pass for a week ?

Id quite like to have a wander around area 51 with a camera, see if there is actually anything exciting there or whether it is actually just an empty facility.

Or a good, unrestricted wander around the Vatican.

Now for the slightly more unrealistic ones;

Bottom of the sea perhaps, a few snaps of the weird and wonderful lurking at the deepest parts of the ocean where no one has gone before.

Then off into space to do some time lapses of the solar system from the view point of the sun.

I'm off to Kazakhstan next week and whilst I'll be ok taking pictures of pretty much everything I'd also like to get inside the presidents bodyguards compound to photograph the Soviet style murals and the guys themselves doing their macho marching. I got a couple of shots from a distance last year with my GF1 and LX5 but I just wasn't close enough.
 
I'd go straight back to the safari I did in South Africa in 2004 and do the photography properly this time!
 
I think it would have to be China. A country that to the West is becoming more westernised but in reality is still very much an oppressed state.

Now, being a little but on the sci-fi side of things - 1940's Britain :)
 
Back to mid to late 60's would be nice, it was a great time. It's said that if you can remember it you were not there, not entirely true. I can remember some of it :)
 
My favourite place is Venice. :) I'm considering trying to get there again for 5th time before my job goes t**s up, :( as I won't be going anywhere abroad once that's gone. :'( :lol:

An amazing place for photos. :D

Some great choices.

I think I would have to choose the Himalayas although just a week of nothing but photography here in Scotland would be great.
 
I'd like to go back to venice / italy without my camera breaking on the first day of my holiday like it did last time.
If time travel was an option then to take pics of Apollo 11 taking off and then go to London's Whitechapel and set up to find out just who Jack the Ripper really was (at least you'd know where he was and when).

Cuba is great difficult to tour on your own due to the lack of restaurants, transport, places to buy the basics due to rationing.

things are suppressed but for the average person living there life, it doesnt feel anymore supressed than being in the uk. the only big you may notice is the one child policy,though that changing slightly as more people can have 2 kids.
go there to a large westernised city like shanghai and i dout its any different to being in london or newyork.
lots of people spending lots and lots of money.

i woukd love to visit other asian countrys japan,thailand ,vietnam, hongkong. i would also like to visit far off parts of china when i go
 
I didn't find Cuba hard at all! The tourist ViAzul buses were better than those in the UK and there are plenty of paladares (private restaurants) in the towns. And most casa particulares (private B&Bs) will also do food for their guests. The state-run restaurants are pretty poor.

The only difficulty you might have is language - outside of Havana far fewer people speak English, but you can get a fair way with gesticulating and smiling! I was Ok though, as llamawoman speaks Spanish... :)

The tourist buses are easy true especially round the tourist resorts outside is different and central Havana is a bit like Disney. All the restaurants seemed to be state run just for tourists. It a great place with lovely people I fear about what would happen if the state did fall though.

That is my choice to,only had one day there but would dearly love to go back.:thumbs:

the falklands - I had a chance to fly out there with the RAF a few years ago , and bitterly regret not taking it (though the downside is ten or so hours in a noisy smelly cold transport wearing ear defenders )

closer to home i quite fancy finland for osprey, bear, and great grey owl

yeah I've been there 5 times too - we stay at camping jolly, only 12 Euros a night :p

last 3 visits I was with my hubby - #1 they were having a heatwave and even folk from Florida and Australia were finding it unbearable. #2 we were supposed to be seeing Aerosmith at the Heineken festival but the stage was blown away in a 5 minute tornado! #3 worst rain in 30 years saw us stranded at the campsite for 3 days because the exit subway was flooded to the brim

I keep telling my hubby he's a jinx lol

Right, nobody plan a trip to Venice at the same time that Summer is going there :D
 
its got to be the biggest event in the world in 2012 - the London Olympics. Get me an access all areas pass for a week there and I'll get pictures that will last a lifetime.
