Following the crash of my hard disc a few months ago, does anyone know any decent, free photo editing software. Cheers.

You could try Raw Therapee, or Darktable, both of which have new versions out. Both very capable.

Affinity or gimp if you prefer proper open source. These are editors not RAW developers even if they have basic functionality. Post above contains some titles to try for that.

Not used it myself but you said free.

I'm an Affinity user for the heavier editing, but for just adjusting photo size, lighter, or darker, etc. I've been using Irfanview for 27 years. It's freeware and available for safe download from cnet.com. My main use for the last 10 years has been reducing the size and pixel count of photos that I want to post on forums that limit sizes. Be certain to download both the program and the codec files. Install both in a chosen directory. It even makes great slide shows of all photos in a given directory. Very menu driven, so you won't likely need help too.

Agree about Affinity it’s excellent have used it for years now and its free as Gav said

Irfanview is an excellent package.

For Apple's OSX, I find the built in "Preview" application adequate for my needs,
