Hi, i just wondered if anyone knows of a free photo editing program that is quite good bearing in mind im new to this and probably wont even know how to use it but i have to start somewhere time to learn.:)

Really like the faststone quite easy to use too, its good how the picture fills the screen so its easy to see, thanks.

you could do worse than get an "old" copy of Photoshop elements, old versions tend to go for peanuts on Amazon or Ebay.
Canon's come with DPP and ZB, dont Nikon's come with anything in the box for basic editting?

Matt

photoscape is quite usable and has some nice features, and loads raw files from the Nikon

As you have a Nikon, try Nikon's own free ViewNX2.* It will read your in-camera settings and apply them to your raw images, and has the best 'decoder' of Nikon raw files (.NEF) as it 'knows' how Nikon coded them in the first place.

*The download link is halfway down the left hand side of the page

Thanks for that i will download that too, with faststone and the nikon program i think that will be ideal as a starting place.

Not quite Photoshop, but Paint.net is worth looking at. Also Serif give away a lite version of PhotoPlus which is fairly easy to use. Picasa is good for organisation and basic editing.

You could also look here http://www.photo-freeware.net/
