There are a few (non photographic) items I am interested in on a certain online auction site (a very well known one!)

Any recommendations as to a free "sniper" tool..... as I won't be in front of the pc when said lots are due to end....

(Yes I know I can just put in the maximum amount I am prepared to pay now, and leave it... though with 0 bids on several items... not a tactic I want to use!)

goofbay, best by a country mile out of several ive used

cheers BSM - all set up and ready to snipe!

Gavelsnipe works well for me...

cheers I will check it out. I seriously need to get a life though, as set up bids/snipes on goofbay, but cannot help keep flicking to the ebay tab.... to see how things are doing... glad i bought a quad core i5 with 8Gb of Ram last week, and am using it to its full potential....:lol::lol:

I tend to look in about once per week, set up all the snipes (and groups for multiple similar items where obviously I only want the one) and then get a nice surprise every now and then when my parsimonious bid wins and the "you have won" mail lands on the mobile.

For those thinking "but you could just put your top bid on" - well yes, but then you get a "chipper" come along and slowly chip away at the auction to reveal your top bid... either means you lose it to the chipper or pay over the odds because the chipper drove the hammer price up. Sniping means you buzz in at the last second with your best offer and if you're not tighter than a gnat's chuff (ie. not me) you should win for less without revealing your hand early :) and most importantly it really really upsets a lot of Germans for some reason I've yet to fathom.
