OK...as suggested on one of the forums...I checked the LEE FILTERS web site...requested a trial filter set...and hey presto...arrived this morning...my Canon 550EX...some cardboard...masking tape and a bulldog clip later...one filter holder...

OK you would prob only use them once in a 'blue' moon...if you pardon the pun...so a wee gimmick...but...

Only thing is...it warped with the heat of the flash a bit...dont know if i got sent the wrong ones...DESIGNERS EDITION...!

SO if you are considering this...and they will send you some...no postage charge either...

THE MOTTO IS:

Ask for photographic ones...!

Good luck to all who try...

are these the ones that come in a yellowish booklet type thing with lots of different colours in them????

The designers edition is the better one, keep a look out for the intresting names of some of the colours.
"BAST*RD AMBER" always gets a giggle.
Look out also for the colour correction filters, daylight/tungsten etc, they all have details on the back, mired shift, colour temp (k) and all.
Dean:)

I'm sure these may be the ones they were giving away free at the Tp Convention IN York..

these are pretty good, but a bit too small, and you only get one of each colour, flashgels.co.uk do really useful packs inc velcro dots very reasonably :)

Cool, would they cover the flash head of a sb-800? These the ones that come after about 5months?!

they just about cover the head, but you still need to add lots of extra tape etc - it's a hassle.

rosco do a 'strobist set' with multiples of the most useful colours (CTOs etc) for about £7, and you can get a zillion gels that are big enough just to stick right on, and velcro dots from flashgels for about £12 :)

Great, i'm going to get some ordered. Rosco ones sound better though for cheap.

Got some of these myself, arrived today. ~300 filters for free, not bad! Big enough for the flashhead of my SB-600, just need to work out a way to attach them now...

Thanks for the heads up.

Rosco also do free sample books.

I requested a sample from Lee that never arrived, so tried again and then about a week later 2 books arrived within days of one another. I'm surprised that Lee/Rosco haven't caught on to the fact that laods of strobists are requesting these.

Oh, and regards how to attach, I made a filter holder out of cardboard (old cereal box) that was wrapped around the flash head. I then cut a slit in one side to poke through the filter and to make it look a little less DIY I covered it in black gaffer tape. Cheap and effective.

I've also cut slits in the side of my DIY snoot and grid snoot. Can easily swap from one filter to another and no need to stick anything on the flash.
