Mine and Nick's @retrogamer1990 shop is approaching it's 1 year anniversary on the 13th July, and we've teamed up with Andrew Sanderson (an ILFORD Master Printer) and are holding a free still life workshop in Leeds Corn Exchange at 1pm on Sunday 13th july.

Thought I'd post this here for those of you who don't have the shop on facebook or don't use it.

Event page with all info can be found here:

And Andrew's website showing off his work & publications:

Hope to see a few of you there :)

Any need to register; how many places do you have? I'll be travelling a fair way, so wouldn't want to find I couldn't get on the workshop!

Mmm, interesting.. I may try and get along to this. Thanks for the heads up Tom.

Only need to register as such if you need to borrow a camera. If you're bringing your own then just pop along :)

No worries, hope to see you there.

Is any b & w film ok or do you have to use HP5? I'd probably want to use XP2 or be a complete philistine with some poundshop vista!

Thanks :). I'll be bringing my own camera's (a medium format and a 35mm), but will probably want to buy one roll of 120 HP5 on the day. Please put my name on one!

Also, maybe a good opportunity to ask; do you by any chance have a Mamiya 645 waist level finder available at a good price in your shop? I'm managing OK with my homemade one for now, but it'd be good to find the real deal!

Not a problem - we almost always have hp5 in both formats so not a problem on that front.

We do indeed, got one out at 199 but would do 10% off TP discount :)

Thanks. Is that just the finder though, as it seems rather expensive if it is? I should have been clearer that that's all I'm after, not the complete kit :)

BTW, happy to go to PM if this isn't appropriate in this thread :)

Him I bought a cheap film camera from eBay to test the water with film :)

Still waiting for a call to collect it. Unless I get a load of black photographs I'll bring it along.

I've been in the shop a few times although never bought anything. I'll be coming to the event with Mark.

Cheers.

This actually sold on Saturday :( it was the complete kit!

Bring it into the shop and I'll check it over for you so you don't end up wasting a roll :)

Ah thought so :). I assume you don't have the finder on its own then? Do you ever get them in?

Have a look at FFordes. They have a large used section and list things like finders on their own as well.

The WLF finder was on the kit that sold unfortunately. Sometimes we do :) Ffordes is always a good starting point.

Yeah sorry I misread that haha, we don't charge £200 for a WLF finder alone. As Nick has said we don't have any in alone and rarely do tbh :(

No problem :). I managed to find one, or rather an angle prism finder, which may be a better option anyway, at Ffordes.

I'm really looking forward to the workshop and a little browse around your shop. I had a look at Andrew's site, and his work is stunning!

Are you both going? I am, and it'd be nice to meet you :)

I probably won't be able to stay for beers (maybe one), as I'll have my family with me and a two hour drive home afterwards, but I'm looking forward to the rest of it :)

I'm fairly sure I can make this now, maybe also a beer or two afterwards, depends on the train times back to sunny Cheshire.

I'm still a maybe. Depends on weather and arse gear interface on the day really :D

10 past the hour to Warrington, not sure where about's in Cheshire you need to head to though :)

No probs - hoping for some nice weather so we can go for a little walk and find a beer garden.

Crewe to Piccadilly then onward to Leeds. I should be there about 10.40, then I shall have a little wander and fire off a few rolls before the meet. Looking forward to it, and I particularly like the 'beer garden' bit.

Thanks for organising this. I had a great time, even thought my film camera wa broken and I didn't get flogged when I took out my digital :)

I'll be looking at going on one of Andrews courses at some time in the future and I'm sure I'll be back in the shop :)

Cheers all

Yes, thanks to the boys at WYC for organising a really interesting day and special thanks to Andrew Sanderson for spending a lot of time very patiently explaining simple concepts over and over again to me. I too will be looking at booking one of his course in the near future, he's a top bloke and his photographs are really awesome.

Nice to meet a couple more of the TP boys as well, Mark (Southdowns) and Andy (Posiview) and especially to Andy for letting me use him as a model, brave man.

Andy

It was raining and horrible when I surfaced so I wrote the day off. Might have been a little premature as by the allotted time it was better where I was and forecast looked good where you lot were!

No problem guys, great to meet you. Andrew was brilliant indeed, I think both me and Nick are also going to book a course with him at some point in the near future as well!

The photo walk didn't happen if that makes you feel any better, I think everyone was all photographed out by the end of it!

The workshop was great though, very interesting and I leant a lot myself about still life and feel a bit inspired to get my arse in gear and shoot some at home rather than feeling like I have to go outside to shoot.

All in all a great day.

For the guys that turned up, when you've developed the films could you send some photos (at least 680px wide) and a small write up on what you thought of the day to tom@wycameras.com if you don't mind please? I'd like to do some stuff on the blog about the day, whether it's one post with everyone featured or whether I do a blog post for each person I'm yet to decide, but you'll definitely be on there if you get some sent across :)

Just want to echo what Tom said about coming in, Thanks guys :)

Hi Nick, Tom and Andrew.

I had a great afternoon, and definitely learned a lot from Andrew (one thing I learned was "my God, I've got a long way to go!"). Thanks so much for putting this on, and please make sure you announce any more on here, paid or otherwise :)

I've developed one of my 1 ½ rolls so far, and will send some shots over as soon as I can.

I've put a few pictures from the workshop here. @Andysnap, fancy adding some?

Glad you enjoyed it :) there were talks between me @ Nick of the possibility of a model workshop next, nothing is set in stone yet but you'll definitely be told when the next one has been organised.

They look great, thanks! really like the one of the D1 body & how you arranged the light on it :)
