Name might be free but it looks like you have to buy some cheap hosting/bandwidth to get it

For personal users hosting is 90p per month for a 12 month subscription which seems very good. Provides 600Mb storage, 20Gb web traffic per month.
 
Nah you dont. Ive just registered a domain and gone through it all. Ive set up the DNS and everything to my server so just waiting to see if it crosses over!

1and1 do £1.99 domains (or did) no charge for web forwarding. MyQTH do cheap ones too.

OK you get a free domain name, but you have to have it hosted on their servers i haven't worked out the costings, but you don't get something for nothing !!!!

most other providers charge less than 3 quid a year for a domain name

if it sounds too good to be true - it probably is !

The DNS has done its magic. It appears to be working and Ive not paid a penny for their hosting or anything like that.

I know all about not getting something for nothing and all that.. but if thats the case, whys it working? Maybe they give you a year free till your actively using the domain and then want to charge you for the next year so that its pretty hard to say no?

Got that domain free, confirmed everything, set it up as an addon domain and changed the DNS to my current hosting. 100% free for a year, no catch.
 
I've just got myself a domain and linked it to a hosting package I already had on 1&1, didn't cost a penny and the domain's mine for a year. No catches.
 
Is it possible to set this up as a redirect to my own site?? I've had a look through their help but the steps it says to take aren't there!! :(
 
I've just signed up for one, (probably paid £19.99 for the validation text though eh :lol:), and sent the DNS servers to my free x10hosting.com account, I've forgotten my password for the x10 account though haha so I'm just waiting for the reset email to come in. So give us a couple of days and

It didn't cost me anything....came from a +33 number too! France if I remember correctly...

Set it up to redirect to my website and works fine :)
 
I have taken advantage of this offer and am trying to transfer DNS etc to my hosting company (Streamilne). I wanted to change the IPSTAG to Streamline as well but there is no facility on the OVH control panel to do this.

I raised a ticket to find out how to do this and their reply was

"To request us to change the tag on your domain you need to send us a scan of your passport or drivers license and a copy of a utility bill from the last three months to prove your ID and address. Then we can act on your request to change the tags for this domain"

Bit of an overkill just to change an IPSTAG isn't it?

Sounds a bit Iffy that, together with your phone No. that'd be enough to get me a loan for a nice Holiday !!!!!!
