Vandals smashed windows and damaged a car at the Edinburgh home of Fred Goodwin
Just seen this on the news. If any of us had their window put in and our cars damaged.

1/ How long would it take to get the Police to wander round ?

2/ Would we get the same hoards of Policemen at the scene of the crime as has just been on Tv ?

Or am i being cynical again ??

Perhaps he should pay for the police protection? At least then, we (taxpayers) may get some of our money back!

He doesn't need police protection, RBS pay for his security. He wasn't in at the time, presumably the security people were wherever he was.

i dont want to sound like i condone vandalism, but i could care less what happens to that guys property, he deserves everything he gets and the only reason we have vigilantes running around is because civil politics just dont work in this situation

Fred the shred is abroad hiding.
Don't care what happens to him, but there are others who want to see Fred take all the flak so as to hide their part in the mess.

I liked the cartoon in the Metro today: "60,000 people were caught on CCTV running away from the crime ..."

Shows how naive I am, and what a different world some people live in where their every need and comfort is provided on the backs of ordinary people who live in the real world.

its the people that get paid the least that work the most.... who can say this planet has its prioties straight when millions are dying of poverty and starvation and ronaldo is taking home £60,000 a week :shake:

I don't condone vandalism even on the property of this slimy git but I can understand why people suffering unemployment whilst he wanders off into the sunset with millions would do it

what would you suggest, the only people resort to vandalism is because they feel powerless against this kind of situation.

How did the fred boy get the top job at RBS. He does not have a single banking qualification (neither does the gov and deputy gov of the B of E).

Nor Does Gordon, but he is happy to tell the World's Banks how they should be run (into the ground)

Yes, but it's always been like in government. Ministers hardly ever have any qualification relating to the depts they head.
Never understood that.

Going to Eton is a qualification more compelling than any amount of relevant PhDs one suspects ...

Doesn't make it right though does it?

No, doesn't make it right.

In fact the whole stance is wrong anyway, yes this guy got his snout well and truly in the trough but it was the politicians that allowed it to happen, and they have encouraged this hate campaign to deflect criticism of themselves.

Frankly I think I'd rather see the campaign against thieving politicians like Jacqui Smith and Tony McNulty.

Doesn't make it right though does it?

Something is only "right" if you have the muscle to get away with it - as proved amply by the banking community over the past decade.

This backlash is hardly surprising. If the haves keep the have-nots down for long enough this sort of thing is inevitable.

The thing i don't understand with all this banking crisis

The people who run these banks are supposed to be clever yeah ?

So why did they lend so much money to folk who cant pay it back ?

I mean it's not rocket science is it ? ..

Or is my cynical side showing again ?

The reason they loan money to people who cannot pay it back is commission.

People who sell mortgages and all the way up to senior execs who sell loans to other banks etc. get paid commission on the amount they sell.

When the borrowers default the bank loses out and we (Joe public) all lose out, but the guys with the commission still get to keep it.

Been going on for decades, but because this shower in power took the controls off the banks it has got immeasurably worse largely due to money being leant to foreign banks who were already in a state of failure.

Trouble is that there should be a law against it, but too many people in positions of influence have been getting very rich in a corrupt system.

I think people will resort to acting like vigilantes unless those elected to power are actually seen to be doing something to punish his reckless management of the bank.

1. Strip him of his knighthood.

2. Remove that part of his pension pot gained during his tenure at RBS.

Sorted.

Odd turn of events when bankers get rewarded for failure and pilots get punished for success:-

The guy below was the pilot who successfully ditched his aircraft in the Hudson river when both engines failed. He saved the lives of all on board.

Captain Chesley Sullenberger revealed the news during an inquiry into last month's accident.

Sullenberger: fears over safety

Taking a swipe at the state of the US airline industry, he said the most important safety equipment on a plane was a well-trained pilot.

He said the industry had been hit by an "economic tsunami" and that many airline staff were finding themselves unable to cope.

He told the hearing he had recently personally suffered a 40% reduction in his salary and his pension had been "terminated".
