hi everyone

I've had some 20x8" panoramic prints done... I was wondering if anyone else has had this size print produced, and what size frames/mounting you have used?

I notice that 20x8 frames are fairly common, but i'd prefer something with some mounting... so ideally 24x12", but not sure how available these are?

Otherwise have people bought more 'regular' sized frames and had custom-made mounts fitted?

anyone? :)

Have a word with Lee @ TogsPrint. He will be be able to knock you up a frame,

that's great I'll bear him in mind :)

was hoping for some 'budget' suggestions as i'm looking to sell on the prints/frames at art fairs/events :)
so the cheaper the better!

What about those multiple photo frames ?

You know the ones that come with a mount cut for inserting 3 photos. What size do they run to? not sure it helps but just a thought, I know wilkinsons usually do a fair range of reasonable frames many with the multi mount.

That way you could simply cut the mount yourself or have a mount cut.

Hi benners.

I too have been looking for frames for 20x8 prints, ideally with a mount.

I have checked Ikea, B&Q, Wilko and The Range, but no success so far. I have also looked at the multi photo frames idea, as suggested by AndrewA123, but again no joy.

If you do get lucky and find a source then please let me know and I will of course do likewise.

Good luck

thanks Sam-D will let you know what I find!

I'm thinking it's going to be a case of getting a 'regular' frame, and then a custom mount... i think it could look quite cool/different with 'thick' mounting above and below.

i do like small pictures/ink drawings/watercolours in larger frames/mounts

Yes I agree.

If your pictures are of a ‘fine art’ nature, then something else worth looking at is mount ‘weighting’, which is a method traditionally used for mounting painted art.

Fundamentally it’s a technique where you make the bottom border a little wider than the top, which avoids the mount looking top-heavy. Additionally it allows for a signature to be neatly accommodated on the mount below the picture.

I think that a signed and ‘weighted’ mount adds an artistic and professional look, which goes down well with the buying public.

Hey

A basic 20" x 8" frame with a 2" mount works out at £16.00 with us in a basic flat black profile and 2" arctic white mount :)

I agree with Sam-D below too - a good mounting (foamboard is relatively inexpensive to hold it all together too) and signed can add "exclusive value" to products too.

thanks Lee, good to know :)
do you have anything that is about a 24"x12 frame, so it will hold a 20x8 print + a mount?

do you or Sam have an images/links/examples to what you mean about the alternative mounting?

Benners, you can see examples of mounts ‘weighted’ at the bottom by going to Kerris Street’s website, where the top three images demonstrates how it looks...

As you will see it can be quite subtle, but it does add a touch more ‘class’. It’s worth noting that most readymade mounts are cut with the aperture central, so if you want a ‘weighted’ mount then buy an oversized one so that you can then trim it down.

Also on the site there is a piece from Kerris about mounting methods where bottom weighting is touched on...

aha i get it :)
i appreciate you finding those links, thank you :) have bookmarked the 2nd page for a read when i'm at home!

Lee - do you do custom-cut mounts?

for example i could get a 24x20 frame for my 20x8 print and get a weighted mount:

mount: 24x20"
aperture: 20x8" (less 5mm for a good fit)
weighting: 4" at the top, 8" at the bottom?
