"Found your lost bag, but I'm keeping your camera..."

It's theft plain and simple, any reward must come from the owner.

I don't understand what you're saying here?

I would be happy to receive all the other contents of the bag, including cash. Cheeky yes, but I'd still be more pleased than not receiving anything at all.
 
If the person who found the bag had just kept it, nothing would of/could of happened.

As they were mostly nice and had the right intentions, they now have the chance of being caught.

Personally I would be perfectly happy to accept the bag back sans camera due to the stress of loosing things.

They lost it, they should be happy to get what they got back.

How is loosing a bag or camera covered by insurance? or is it not? Ie having a camera stolen is covered, but loosing it isn't covered?
 
What an odd thing to do, the honesty doesn't cancel out the dishonesty, I'd have just been relieved to get the memory card and documents back to be honest
 
My 2 pence... Why not just keep the cash and send everything else back, unless they were desperate for a camera (which may not have had leads and stuff with it). To a degree, I can see their point - which idiot leaves a bag containing cash, camera and passports lying around??? If you are that supid and careless then dont moan if something happens!

When I get into fights (which I don't...this is just a fr'instance), I only rip one arm off...I leave the other one because I am mostly nice and have the right intentions.
 
People like this make me sick. It seems a day doesn't go by these days when I don't read about or see someone doing something absolutely selfish and disgusting.

I think that's really unfair. People make mistakes all the time - when you're travelling, you're often exhaused and feeling harassed and I can totally understand how someone can leave a bag lying somewhere accidentally in the confusion and exhaustion of it all. I'm sure all travel hubs deal with a lot of accidentally left luggage and items all the time.

Honestly, if people were a little more caring instead of being so ****ing selfish and ruthlessly condescending all the time, the world would be a far better place.

Doesn't matter how stupid or careless someone has been, it's still theft. People make mistakes, doesn't mean they deserve to be stolen from!
 
All the Police need to do is use the stolen camera finder website to trace the images any images the thieves post online.....

Were you ever taught about "right" and "wrong", "honesty" and "dishonesty"?
What a shocking and brazen attitude you have, particularly as you see nothing wrong in advertising your thoughts.
I would think that more than a few people on here, would think twice about inviting you on a photo trip and then leaving their treasured and expensive gear lying around.:(

The bag should have been handed to the airport staff, pure and simple. The person who sent it back to the owners minus the camera has stolen from them, end of story and deserve to be prosecuted for it.
 
Obviously not someone that heeds the warnings about unattended baggage at airports. Would have been poetic justice if the bag had actually been a bomb....

I can see where he is coming from though. In 99% of cases, the 'thief' would have gone through the bag, taken anything of value (cash, camera etc...) and dumped it. At least in this case the person got the memory stick back which cannot be replaced.

I really disagree. These days of tight security means that anyone who leaves a bag can cause massive disruption to other passenegers. We all get tired, but to mislay a small bag containing cash, camera, passports etc... is careless at best. My camera bag goes most places with me and I would never leave it just for a second.

I agree that it's better than nothing for the couple but its kind of like breaking into somebodies house and only taking their telly.

An honest person would have simply handed it in to lost property at the airport and been on their way.

It wasn't even in the terminal building, where it could cause a potential disruption. However, this is over and above the fact that it doesn't excuse what is basically a case of theft. In fact, it almost sounds like the bag may have been accidentally dropped while they were loading their luggage into their car or it may have even fallen out of their car.

Are you so perfect that you've never accidentally left anything anywhere? Your sanctimonious attitude here is really part of the problem these days - no-one bothers to look out for anyone else out of sheer kindness; instead we have snooty people who think that those who make mistakes somehow deserve anything bad which happens as a result, and you get people like this repulsive individual who decided to steal something because she felt a bloated sense of entitlement for happening to find something that someone had lost.

What the **** ever happened to human kindness? People's selfish attitudes today make me ****ing sick.

As I've mentioned, I'd rather have received what the couple did, than nothing at all. We all know what the world is like. Unless you or others go on a crusade, it won't change.

Sounds like the classic put the bag on the roof of the car, forget it and drive off. Bag falls off at first direction change. Seen it happen before, especially when people are very tired from travelling.

If you've gone to the trouble to return the bag and contents, why not everything.

What exactly is theft? I mean if I find a fiver in the street and pick it up is it theft? If I find a camera, laptop or £20k is that theft? Legally I don't know? Ok, all would keep the fiver, and most would hand a laptop to police, but if I chose not to hand in is that an offence? Ok this is different but as they found the bag then are they not the owner now?

Sure, I forget a lot but if I was to leave something of value behind I have noone to blame other than me. I would certainly noticed if I droped such an important bag.

Selfish attitudes go both ways. The other week I read about someone who handed in a large pile of cash (not sure how much, could b £500 or £5k) and the owner gave no reward.

Have you been to any of the more modern airports recently? There's a reason why they put on courtesy buses to get you to the terminal

Yes, "Theft by Finding"...if you find something that clearly belongs to someone else, and you keep it, that is theft. It is the proper thing to take the item to the police station and after reasonable attempts have failed to trace the owner, then ownership reverts to the finder. Clearly in the case of the £5, this is not likely, however it IS how it should be.

In the past we have found things...best one was a lawnmower, leaf blower, and strimmer found in a hedge. We told the police, they tried to trace the owner. They never did...we keep the goods. I also found a posh blackberry phone the other day in a car park near our doctor. I was in a hurry with my disabled daughter, so I took it home. I looked through it, found a name I seemed to recognise, and worked out it belonged to a nurse at the surgery...phoned the surgery and she came and picked up her phone. I didn't keep the battery as a reward, or anything!

God (other deities are available) help us if people are to be punished for losing something! We have enough trouble properly punishing criminals, such as THIEVES, these days without creating new people to punish!
 
I am a very frequent flyer elph and although I haven't been to Bournemouth airport, if it's anything like soton then yes, a 2min walk!

in actual fact any unaccompanied bags or boxes should be brought to the attention of security staff - not touched. Even just outside the terminal building, which is where this one was found. Hardly a 'bus ride' away...

Actually, in many countries it is considered theft by law, if the person finding the lost property knows the identity of the owner. In this case, this applies. I'm not, however, sure what the law in the UK is regarding this, but I'd imagine they have it stipulated somewhere.

Speak for yourself. I found £20 in an ATM a few years ago and donated it to Unicef. The money was not mine to keep, but since I had no idea who it belonged to, I figured the next best thing would be to give it to charity. Not once did the notion of keeping it for myself even cross my mind.

But you don't even know the circumstances in which it was dropped. Perhaps it was dropped by a cab driver loading their luggage into the boot of the car - we just don't know. You're making assumptions and condemning these people on the basis of them. Put yourself in their shoes and see how you'd feel in the same situation.

So? People who do things purely on the expectation of reward are pretty repulsive in my book. For me, the reward is knowing that I've helped someone. I'd probably offer someone a reward if they returned something I'd lost, but this is not a requirement, and frankly I don't think it's too much to ask for people to be kind and considerate. I give money every month to four charities that I feel are really important - I'll never, ever get anything back from it, but that's not the point of charity, is it? A little human kindness goes a long way to making the world a better place for everyone. Even monkeys understand the benefits of altruism, so why can't you?
 
No idea about Bournemouth or Soton my friend. I'll take your word for it.

It doesn't 'seem' that this bag was just outside the terminal building, but that's just my guess. Nobody on here knows exactly how far the bag was away from the building. The woman who returned most of the goods, might have found it near the car park exit at an offsite car park, who knows? If you know any different, please show me where.

She might have had to catch a bus? Or her prebooked taxi had turned up. We don't know the in's and out's of it, just that she chose to return all but the camera.

Some people are like that. I'm not sure I would have gone back to the airport, but I would have tried my best to get the bag to the person, with all it's contents. If it was my bag that had been returned to me minus my camera, I would have been pretty pleased, but hopping mad with myself for leaving it / dropping it.

I would put it down to experience and try harder to look after my things next time. I believe in Karma. The woman will come unstuck 1 day...

I was taught right from wrong.

I also learnt a valuable lesson:

The world is 'is and isn't' not 'should and shouldn't'

I have leant to live with people in the world the way they are and don't spend my life pretending to be shocked because I think people should behave better.

If you learn the above rule you will have a lot less stress in your life and have less disappointment.

I didn't say what I would do Mr holier than thou preacher man. I said they would of been better off not sending it back at all as the police will be looking for them.

I know that this place is generally a friendly place, but the fact that you put the word "thief" in inverted commas, shows that you have some sympathy with the criminal classes.
