Found photos

But not on a once in a lifetime honeymoon, but back the house to cut the cake and celebrate.

I think the bike's a Douglas. If you want to know, Classic Bike magazine have an ID "feature" where readers send in old photos and their team try to ID the bike(s). Googling the reg. no. might throw up other shots of the bike (if it's survived.)

Having spent most of my life around my late father's veteran bikes, I think you are correct. I'm almost certain that is a Douglas 2 3/4 HP, which was produced between 1912 and 1922.

With that number, it would have been registered in Lancashire before 1919, when the Lancashire office ran out of B XXXX numbers.

No other shots of that particular one to to be found, though.

Another batch of negatives, almost 700 by the looks of it. As usual, the older negatives are the most interesting so here are a couple from the 1950's.

I checked this out by finding the registration on the DVLC web site, the car is still registered, it's a Dellow. I contacted the Dellow owners web site and got it identified as a Mark 3 2+2. Don't know where the barracks are, could be Cyprus maybe, the place looks a bit rough.

And here is the passenger.

A closer look at the badge reveals this. It must identify the photographer's regiment, so far I haven't been able to track it down. A lion standing on summat with a scroll beneath? The regiment's name begins with Royal...

Lots more mysteries to solved, for example, are the earlier photographs from Egypt or even the Sudan.

Anyhow, quite like looking at these older collections, it gives one a sense of place in time, he pompously declaimed.

When it comes down to it I want that car!

Got some more information about the Dellow, from Robert Broughton at the Dellow register, ...

As I keep the archive records on all cars made, with separate files on all cars and my records show that the car was bought new in December 1954 by a Staff Sargent Watson on the 16th December 1954. He later sold the car in in December 1956 in part exchange for a MK 5 replacement.(Reg. SNP 94). At that time he was based at Waller Barracks, Devizes. The original colour was Red and it was sold via the London Agents, Gordon Garages.

I’m not sure but a quick Dougal suggests the Lion & Crown cap badge could be the Army Pay Corps.
