Hi, did anyone on here ever use Fotopic photo hosting site ? If you did you know it went bust a few years ago and everyone lost their photos. I was lucky I only had a few on there but there is one I particularly want back. (lost back up).

Today I had an email from a company saying they are Fotopic.net and I can download my old photos. When this process is complete with all other users the site will be closed down.

Heres a copy of the email.

Dear Gary Robertson,

We are contacting you as a former user of www.Fotopic.net As you are probably aware Snappy Designs Ltd, the company running Fotopic.net, went into liquidation in 2011.
The assets of the company were bought by a private buyer in the hope of resuscitating Fotopic and integrating it into their photo portal.

Subsequently this was found to be too costly an operation to set up and run. We reluctantly abandoned our plans but were aware that users still had photographs on the site of which they had no copies.

For technical reasons it has taken us a while to get Fotopic operational again. We have only opened up Fotopic to allow existing users to view and download their pictures.
Once this process is completed the site will be shut down again. So if you have images you want to retrieve please download them soon.

You can log in using your existing Fotopic user name.

Website: www.Fotopic.net
User name: (your email address) *******
Password: your original password (an encrypted version is: ******which can be un-encrypted on this website: www.md5decrypter.co.uk)

We are providing access on a rolling basis alphabetically on a trial basis, to make sure that our servers can cope with the anticipated load.

By receiving this email you are now able to login and download your pictures.

Kind regards

I think it smells ! What do others think ?

Cheers Gary

Seems legit. Just went to the website and they are currently allowing usernames up to the letter E to access their old photos. I'm T, so have to wait a while.

I was with Fotopic and didn't receive an email...............and then I realised that the email address I signed up with is no longer in use; D'Oh!!!!

I'll have to keep an eye on this so I can retrieve my photos from the site.

Yes all Legit have logged in and downloaded all I needed too :)

Thank-you, very grateful. I`ll give it a go.

May be worth checking that by logging in you aren't giving them the rights to use any shots or something. I'd ask if all images are to be deleted after the deadline.

Anyway, anyone who uploaded to them will have kept file copies.

Won't they...

Just a bump as I've received a similar email and was able to retrieve some very old stuff (for which I didn't have a copy) so very grateful they've done whatever recovery process to get them back.

Now "creating my zip file list" and downloading :)

Just an update: received this today

Would love to get back at mine, but It's been so long since it became defunct I have no idea what email address or user name I may have used back then.

And whatever address it was, it definitely no longer exists!
