As some of the more longstanding members are aware, the forums have grown hugely over the last year, and this has attracted the attention of the internets wheelers and dealers.

The Admin team were approached a while ago by a large company with an offer to buy-out the Forums. We initially rejected the offer, but when the offer was upped and represented to us, we felt it would benefit the forums and take them forward in a way that we couldnt.

The current admin team will remain in admin and overall control of day-today operations, and the mod team will also remain as it is also, but we expect a major increase in traffic and so will probably be expanding the team accordingly.

We will also still be Talk Photography!

We will make a further announcement later today as to the new owners, and they will also introduce themselves.

regards

The Admin Team

if you have any questions, post here and we will answer what we can.

Yeah we had thought of that, but we hope the fact we'll be announcing the new owners after 12:00 will show that the date is just a coincidence ;)

I imagine it may be a photography magazine:thinking: Will we have to start paying?

Although i kinda think that it maybe an April fool thingy

Sounds for real then? As long as it stays free it can only be a good thing I would have thought. Must be quite exciting for you guys.

EDIT - good points made in post below though. People don't like change, no sir.

I really like this site as it is so just a word of caution for you.

Visordown was a privately run site for a very long time and had a huge number of posters, rideouts, photocomp, meets and so on.

It became so large that T.W.O. magazine took an interest and bought it, there were intially some complaints which were reasured by 'the Admin team havn't changed' 'this is still the same VD' etc etc.

for some reason the forum software was changed from vBulletin to something else and a huge majority of posters have jumped ship and the forum is now on a downward spiral, even the photocomp has been axed due to a lack of interest.

be carefull in what you agree to because people dont like changes and they/we will go elsewhere.

Good luck in the changes you intend on making :)

Blimey - I hadn't realised my £20 donation made that much difference :D

Ahh I c, so does that mean you are looking for more people to help out as it were?

Tafflade may have a point though... Interesting times ahead. Let's hope they don't change anything... If indeed this is serious :P

I know various car forums that have been bought out and they've gone downhill as the people who assume control have their own agenda which doesn't always sit comfortably in an independant enthusiasts forum.

I think this is still an April fool linked into the C a n o n/N i k o n being changed to Sony...

I can vouch for that, I used to post on VD but since it changed I haven't really bothered much, I went back a few weeks ago and it was pretty dead

does this mean the Admin team will be moving to Switzaland to avoid tax now :D

The Admin account is just what we use to post announcements and official stuff and what not, and we admins reply as ourselves :)

 ... ...

Nice try guys ... :suspect: ... but Marcel sealed it with a kiss ... ooops ... sorry his too rapid and ready response ...

BEES TARDS the lot of you ... :nono: ... shame on you all ... :bat:

:p

i dont think it is.
i aint takin no risks. i will wait til tomoro to see if it is still true :p

Soz, but it's a little presumptious of Bod to assume that all staff will be staying on. I didn't sign up to be an unpaid drone for a commercial enterprise and I'll be giving some serious thought to where I stand on this. :nono:

The discounts they promised could make up for it though

Jimmy, I second that.:cuckoo:

No doubt the owner has changed from Marcel to CT, with a promise of a bacon butty :D
