Forums that charge for access - would you pay?

Don't you all know you can get pretty much anything you like on here if you pay in cookies :D (or boobs)*

*that is you can get things for boobs, you can't get boobs....trust me, I have tried

Well in that case you should make me a mod, I'm a real expert with boobs :naughty:

I got the email through from them today that my membership has expired. Thats a shame then.

I never joined them but do go to Nikon cafe now and again

I wouldn't pay to be a member of a forum, i'd be happy to click an affiliate link or chip in to a raffle though or buy goods if they were priced right

The only site I paid for as a scientific one but that was for access to various papers that were not found elsewhere.
I cannot think of any forum I would pay to use, donate yes but I wold not join or stay on a forum that I had to pay to use.

Mods please note: I am also happy to provide cookies!!

I would happily pay to use a forum providing it gave me something extra none of the other forums gave me. To me it's the difference between freeware/shareware/fully paid software. You get what you pay for.

As for TP, all I can say is it's excellent value for money :D.

I was once a member of a forum that had a one off fee of £12, which gave you access to a few extra forums, including a sex talk forum, and a 'drama' forum where people could battle things out and there were no rules ... they both got pretty messy at times, but the perv in me and the gossip couldn't resist the temptation to either, so I paid

I would have no problem paying a one off fee perhaps, if it gave me special discounts from our traders or other sponsors. I have noticed we get a bit of an influx of members signing up to cash in on 'TP members only' discounts on thing from some traders, and I think that sucks donkey balls a bit IMO.

Don't worry, we won't be charging at all. I can safely say that ;)
TP always has, and will, be free.

The donations (since the raffle) now means the forum pot is comfortable.
But it's not just the costs, some people want to donate just to say thankyou, rather than as a concern for keeping the bills paid (if that makes sense). That's why we adopt a purely voluntary stance, and that we don't treat donators differently to non-donators as we feel that would be unfair.

All in all, what I'm saying is, we don't want anyone worrying about the costs, so to speak, that should be the admin's worry. You should be able to come here for free, and use the resources we offer. If anyone wants to donate, either with the costs in mind, or as a thankyou gesture, then they're welcome to (and we're grateful for of course), but in no way will it be a requirement.

So we won't be charging a membership fee.

Unless it's matty's personal smut collection of course..........I'm selling keys to that one to the highest bidder :D

Depends if you like avocados, elephant statues, tickling sticks and a healthy dose of treacle toffee :cuckoo: :naughty: :D

The mind boggles!

I think i'll just go and get a dose of sanity on the bbc news website instead :D

We COULD make some accounts subscription only...Ashers can only post if he coughs up £100.....per week....

Cue lots of randomly interjected posts by the man himself for the next 24 hours, with perfect examples of the Ash-isms we have come to know only too well

how much would matt sayle have to pay at 2p a post lol

i got the email today too, to say i was shocked is an understatement, i have since deleted my nikonians bookmarks

Likewise - although, to be fair, I rarely went there. Their forum software is clunky, and they never seemed quite as friendly (unless you were a paid-member, had lots of Nikon glass in your sig, and claimed to be a "Somewhere" Nikonian....

I wouldn't want to pay for membership of a forum that would have me as a member*

*apologies to Groucho Marx

Spirited as your fight is though Flashy, you ain`t the biggest "member" on here................:D

Reminds me of my mate going around all pleased with himself because he thought a lass had told him he had the biggest p---k in the area..

Interesting subject - but how would the forums collect the money?
Hi and welcome to TP

To quote 'Batman & Robin series from the Adam West days ........"Holy thread revival Batman........16 year old thread back from the dead......."

I think Andy Rouse has a members scheme. It's relatively straightforward you pay a monthly subscription which is checked against your log in details to confirm you have paid.

I think the issue with this model for photographers is there are so many sources available for free
