This is a revised thread, since Silverstone decided to re-arrange most of the dates :(

As already mentioned in the 2006 Events Calender thread, there is F1 testing at Silverstone a number of times this year.

I have already booked a number of days off work to go to this. Its a great day out, mostly cos tis free :p and you can get into reasonably good postions to shoot the cars from.

Anyway, the dates I am going are as follows:

27 February 2006 (Monday)

25 April 2006 (Tuesday)

26 April 2006 (Wednesday)

There is another session in June just after the GP, but I havent booked time for that yet.

If any of you want to come along, that would be really good. The more the merrier! :D

The full (revised) Silverstone calender for 2006 can be found here

My pictures from the last time I went (back in September last year) are here

Looking forward to seeing some of you there! :D

Apologies for messing some of you about with dates that got changed. I hope no-one booked holiday with work and cant change it now. :(

I'm on for 27 February :) . Joe are you going to organise a place to meet ? Would also appreciate any guidance which entrance to Silverstone to use.

There is only really one entrance to Silverstone now !

On the day you only get access to the Luffield complex and the pit straight, unless you pay £10 for a centre transfer ticket, but these are few and you need to be there really early !

Good places to meet ! erm by the bridge as you go in, the first stand on the left, the rough car park on the right of the bridge ?

those going should exchange mobile numbers by PM, then simply ring when you arrive!

What time does testing start ?...or does anybody suggest a good start time for most activity ?

Have to bow out till April also..... doing up new house befroe moving in, to include new bathroom, kitchen, walls down, walls up , new fire ......be easier to knock it down & start again ;)

I'm thinking of going on the 27th Feb. I know they dont know who will be testing yet, but is there any website that will post details of who (or if anyone) is testing, maybe a day or 2 before the 27th?
...just would be nice to know which teams will be testing there.

Ive never seen it online, but apparently they sometimes tell you if ring up a couple of days before. :)

Im looking forward to seeing some of the new cars' livery. :)

I don't know how many of you have seen this??

Taken from ITV/F1
Silverstone is likely to lose three of its fabled corners if plans to redevelop the Northamptonshire venue are given the go-ahead next week.

Circuit owner British Racing Drivers Club will convene on Wednesday to discuss whether to grant a 150-year lease to developer St Modwen Properties, which plans to build residential homes on the 800-acre site.

Details of specific housing plots have not yet been released, but the Daily Telegraph reports that they would be accommodated by cutting out Club, Abbey and Bridge corners and moving the circuit to the east.

Although the configuration of these three corners have been changed over the years – and Bridge bend did not exist until 1991 – the trace of circuit between Club and Bridge has been part of the layout since Silverstone’s earliest post-war days.

The BRDC board, led by chairman Stuart Rolt and president Sir Jackie Stewart, believes that a commercial solution is vital in order to raise the funds needed to revamp the former RAF bomber base into a modern, multi-purpose facility.

Failure to do so would, it believes, put the future of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in jeopardy.

However, another faction within the BRDC (led by former British F3 champion Harry Stiller) is determined to resist the changes, claiming that they are against the members’ interests and that commercialisation is too high a price to pay for the retention of the British GP.

If the lease proposal is approved next week it will be put to a formal vote at the BRDC’s AGM in April.

So lets move the track to make room for some houses then

Cheers for the info Steve. I hadnt seen that.

Im less worried about the loss of the corners than I am on the potential problem that Silverstone will have with regard to niose. Currently there are few houses near the cirucit, so its less of a problem, but with this development, I can see a noise abatement order coming. Same problem as brands maybe - no Grand Prixs? :(

plain silly really, whats the matter with this country and its lack of backing for things we are good at!

Got the day reserved for Silverstone , now all I need is good weather and some sliding cars :)

Ps. Does anybody now when they have a brolly-dolly test day .......

Please someone get a really good shot of the new McLaren MP4-21 if it is there, what a gorgeous looking car that is!!!! I would love to have a top quality photo of that as my desktop picture for a while ;)

I was not going to go as i did not want to get frozen - guess the teams felt the same.
